Have a chance to acquire some Triple 7. I've never used it...is it the same...volume for volume with Pyrodex?

I thought there were shelf life issues with tripple 7, though I may be wrong....
Not sure about Triple 7 but I do know that Pyrodex, after a few years loses its dependability. It may or may not ignite. That makes it more dangerous IMO for those who break the safety rules about keeping things pointed in a safe direction. Especially when a gun fails to fire.
I always use real black powder for all of my muzzle loading needs. As long as you keep it stored in a cool, dry, dark place, it will last 100 years and probably longer.
Sorry I didn't answer your question ltcdoty about the measurements of Triple 7. I have never used it.
In general, Black Powder substitutes are volume-to-volume the same. Hodgdon does not state this on their website but maybe it is on the bottle. A video showing comparisons of Black Powder, Pyrodex and Triple seven shows equal volume use. However, they video states that Triple Seven produces higher pressure and recommends reducing the charge by 15%. Suggest you review Triple Seven Powder on the internet. Good luck.

From experience:
I've been using triple 7 for several years and have no problems with long term storage.
I use the 2f type in 45 and 50 cal rifles for most consistent accuracy and usually around 70-80gr. The 3f is not as consistently accurate in the 1/48 and 1/28 twist rifle barrels I've tested using sabots. I have to use 209 pimers to get a good ignition. I store the powder inside a tightly sealed zip lock bag with few silca packets inside gun closet inside house. Some of the Triple 7 I use is more than 10 years old and still reliable ignition and consistently accurate.
Fresh powder is the way to go.
I use White Hot.
Walmart usually carries Triple 7. If that is all you can find - go for it. It will work in percussion rifles and cap & ball revolvers. I hear flintlocks have trouble igniting it though.

I have an unopened can of 3f triple 7 from maybe 8-10 years ago, stored in a 70 to 77 degree controllled dehumidified area, anyone think it might still have deteriorated.
I want to give it to a neighbor to use for his new percussion pistol , but don't want to needlessly cause any problem for him.
give it to him and have him load one round to make sure it goes off, he could leave the ball out if you are really worried it might not go off just pack it down and put wad of paper tight over powder and try it, it should be good but this would let you know without haveing to pull a bullet if it doesn't go off.....
