i am currently trying to clean a S&W model 37 flat latch for the first time, for me and the gun. had to replace the hammer and saw internals were really gunked up with old oil. my question is: what type of finish is on the frame? specifically will it stand up to brake clean or mineral spirits without damage. thanks all.

Remove the grips and if the gun has a factory blue finish brake cleaner or mineral spirits should be fine. I usually just take the gun apart and use Hoppes and a few Q tips.
The frame is anodized I would do a small sample area under the grips first
Yup, the 37 has an aluminum frame but as long as you don't get the grips wet, it should be ok.
thanks guys anodized was the answer i was looking for.
I've really great luck with "Aerokroil". Real a great product. Internet only I believe?
At a parts store you have to ask for it. They keep it in the back because of the price.
Just put it in the dishwasher, you should be fine.
