i have a craving for pickled sausage {please dont laugh at me}. anyway i used to eat penrose but they are long out of business. so looking on the internet i see several different brands and reviews for each. most reviews are not very good, several saying they are like a pickled hot dog instead of sausage. do any of you have a recommendation of something you have actually tried and like. thanks.

I loved pickled polish sausage. Haven't had any in years, can't find it. Now I must,,,
Be creative and try this;
I only eat homemade pickled sausage. It has something to do with being told as a kid that when sausages start to go bad they pickle them to hide the taste! This recipe takes about 20 minutes to prepare plus at least two days in the fridge before eating. I think a good smoked sausage works best but kielbasa isn't bad either. Bob
These were so nasty, I couldn't eat them. Tasted like they were pickled in turpentine.
Just kielbasa not pickled
yeah jimdeere thats what im getting from the reviews, hence my topic. and thank you bobjudy, if i cant find anything i just might give that a try.
"i used to eat penrose but they are long out of business"...
...I don't know if they're the same "Penrose", but Amazon carries several flavors of Penrose sausage...I just did a search and found 'em on Amazon...
Making pickled eggs today. Our chickens seem to have gone into overdrive with egg production.
Gonna have to try the recipe, and will look into what amazon has to offer. Thanks.
Never seen/had that. Is it like Vienna sausage in a can?
think ill try and make my own also. ill be using Andouille sausage, a cajun sausage that is just spicy enough. have all the ingredients and its suppose to rain all weekend so will have something to do indoors.
NO. Not even close.
I make my own pickled ring bologna adding sweet onions sliced into rings very thin. I don't do well with hot peppers anymore.
I used to eat those pickled Primrose sausages that came in single packets back in the old days along with a few red hots that were sold the same way. They were a bit on the mushy side but back then I wasn't nearly as fussy about my food as I have become today.
I have a great gal who frequently pickles my sausage.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Well somebody had to go there... LOL MR P!
