Speaking of electric cars ...

At the current very low level of electric cars & trucks on the road, I wonder what will happen when they are 50%+ or so. How will our highway construction/improvements be funded? I think IN has a modest extra fee for buying plates every year. The feds will need to make major changes to fund federal highways though. Maybe they will just add a shift to the mints.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

Simple, mileage tax.
Yes, that would work but your mileage would need to be monitored by the feds. Newer cars could do that with GM's Onstar and similar features from other mfgr's - I don't know their names. Older cars would need to be equipped with electronics. They sure won't take our word for it.
"Older cars would need to be equipped with electronics. "......................nope, they still burn 'gas' and pay 'road tax'
...I don't recall that local, State or Federal governments ever had ANY trouble in figuring out how to tax us, so I am 100% sure they will find a way...
My bad Mike!
That will be an excuse to tax electricity farther.
I saw a car with "Electric Vehicle" plates. It was from Mass and driving in PA, wonder how many charges it took for him to get home? ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Dummies haven't figured out you just can't scoot you feet over carpet and make electricity.
Going to take some sort of fossil fuel to generate it. Or nukes.
Even with all the liberal greenie hot air, there still won't be enough wind to do the trick.
Nailed it!!
Liberals will buy most of the electric cars then promote that gas users should be punished. Punished by increasing taxes on gas. They will be able to avoid paying their fair share of taxes and feel superior that they are saving the planet. green font
Yep
New tech cars will have tracking tech. Government will know exactly where, when, and how fast you drove and exact distance to a fraction of a mile. This tech is already here and in use in Trucks. Congress will make it mandatory .
Utah is already talking about implementing a mileage tax or highway maintenance surcharge for electric cars. It IS a fairness issue. If gas/diesel vehicles have to pay a hefty per-gallon tax for highway upkeep, why should battery cars get to use the same roads for free?
Instead of actual monitoring (which conservative Utah is much against) the now preferred option is an annual surcharge on vehicle registration fees. We also pay property tax on vehicles here, so that's another approach.
Unless a way is developed to fully charge a vehicle in 10 or 15 minutes, none of the plans are gonna happen. It also will require building a lot more power plants, also a non-starter. Do folks really believe that all that stuff can just be legislated into existence?
Just as most liberals have no clue as to how their chicken ,bacon and fruits and vegetables get to their table , they also have no clue as to infrastructure. They fail to understand the fallacy of " green energy" . They truly ,due to stupidity and ignorance, believe that yes they can legislate it into existence.
Verginnie threatened a mileage tax a time or two, at least some of the SW counties.
If I make a few more trips around the sun I really think I will see cars and trucks tracked by satilite, break the speed limit, go to mail box, or check your email for a speeding ticket. I would wager over 75% of the autos on the road now have the ability to be tracked, and even more could be tracked by cell phone.
Ever wonder why big brother wants us to stay at least 6 feet apart? Covid is just an excuse for implementing the "suggestion".
My brother has a Tesla. He is not a greenie or a Lib, he thinks Climate Change is a pile of BS. He just likes the car.
The other day we took a trip to Hickory to look at an airport. It was 95 degrees. When we left my house, the Tesla computer showed we could travel 258 miles. However, when running the a/c, you lose 40 percent of that mileage. In fact we only could go about 155 miles.
We had driven 120 miles, and we could still go another 30 miles, and we pulled into a Sheetz gas station on I 40 to recharge. They had 8 Tesla Superchargers there.
On a long trip, on a hot day, you will have to stop about every 2 hours and do a 35 minute recharge.
Check out this Tesla

EV's are garbage for anything but short commutes. A hybrid is a much better choice.
I reckon the people who don't buy in to electric cars will be the ones picking up the tab (Cuban subsidized style).
