It's been a few years......but here is an interesting comparison I once read about. I should see if I can retrieve the article.

The stored energy of the average sized gas station(just ONE gas station)........versus.......an equivalent solar farm.

The solar farm would have to be 100 miles SQUARED!!!!!!.......it boggles the mind!!

I still don't believe the electric car is the car of the future if the government would get their hands out of it. There might be better alternatives developing by now

don't even know the reason they had to do the test, it is pretty much common sense to me anyways, guess the cell phone/video generation needs proof, though they will claim it was all a lie......

Too many down to earth truthful facts in that video.

Also seen on TV info about how much of the earth is mutiliated (polluting the enviroment) just to dig/mine the minerals required to make ONE battery for a EV. (worse than destroying the Amazon rain forest or strip mining for coal that we hear them complaining about, but no complaining about mining for battery minerals YET. (news media won't touch on that fact right now) Lots of hidden facts about the making of ev's vs fossil fuel Vecs.

I smell a rat in the woodpile.(politicians with their hand in the money pot, similiar to foxes guarding the hen house) Forcing the price of fuels sky high to promote EV, solar and windmills so as to HELP out the peons and the future generations. (pulling on our heart strings while their hands are getting into our billfold)

Appears they need to add a windmill and some solar panels to the NEW Ford. (Ford has a better idea, yea sure) I have FORD in the category of ASX Whispers.

Ford has a better idea just went out the window as far as I'm concerned and I used to be a Ford (Fix Or Repair Daily) fan, but that went out the window when I bought a Toyota tundra few years back.

Batteries, solar power and windbags and windmills is not the answer right now and even Ronnie Milsap nd Stevie Wonder can see that one.

Great for short trips, less than 200 miles*.

    Not good for long trips.

*If the air conditioner is not on.

X long range batteries 320 mIle.. empty... however it wouldn't do 100 mile pulling.

By the time most folks on vacation get to where they are going, pulling a travel trailer, it will be time to turn around and go home. At least they will have a comfortable place to nap while recharging their vehicle.

Hmmm.... Most folks have a generator for their trailer. If they kept it running and plugged into their EV while driving, I wonder what kind of range they would get? Bob

If the electric car had been towing that diesel generator, they could have done the without the gas powered van! Sheesh, people just don't think ahead! If we could just figure out how to refuel that generator on the move, we might have discovered perpetual motion!

stopped watching after the dipstick with the radio.

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

If the generator would produce 220, you would get 23 miles for every hour of charging. 23 miles, IF the A/C is not running. Of course, pulling a trailer would cut a great deal off of those 23 miles.

Yeah, I get it! I knew not having a green font would get me in trouble!😀

Wait a minute! Are you saying if I stay under 23mph, I can keep going as long as my generator is running? We may be on to something! 🤔

Obviously, I still miss the green font. Bob

That was a tiny trailer maybe it could go 50 mile with a real one

  • allen griggsallen griggs Member Posts: 35,619 ✭✭✭✭

I knew you were kidding Bob. I just gave a "nerd" response.

The thing is you do see pics of people driving Teslas around, with gasoline generators hooked to the rear bumper.

  • BobJudyBobJudy Member Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭✭

Do you think with the combination of my sarcasm and your "nerd" response we have convinced anyone of the absurdity of switching our country over to EV's? The battery technology hasn't kept up with the greenies timeline and our energy infrastructure is totally inadequate but other than that, we are good to go.

The phrase "When fools rush in" comes to mind when I listen to some of the greenies demanding we immediately switch to electric and stop burning fossil fuels. With the government siding with the greenies, what could go wrong?

    EV towing--now that's something to think about--NOT.

I wonder what some folks think about/with. Real world pickup users don't just drive somewhere and park for half a day waiting for their 'pansy wagon' to recharge. We drive 300 miles, stop for 10 minutes to refill the fuel tank and empty bladder, and repeat. I'm SOOO tired of this foolishness.

  • allen griggsallen griggs Member Posts: 35,619 ✭✭✭✭

My brother has a Tesla. He is not a Greenie and he thinks climate change is BS. But that Tesla is fun to drive. We are going down to the gym in an hour in the Tesla.

I wired up his 220 charging station in his garage, it was easy to do. He plugs in there, in one hour of charging, he gets 23 miles of travel.

The car is not good for long trips. But this October, we will drive the Tesla up to the top of Mt. Mitchell to look at the autumn leaves on the Blue Ridge Parkway. 48 miles to the top of Mt. Mitchell. The Tesla is great for a trip like that.

At work last week a tractor-trailer made a delivery and the tractor had electric in big letters down the side.

Good information. Thanks for the post.

23 miles to the hour. Finally some information taken from experience! I can see that it would be fun to play around with an electric vehicle. Just for fun and not for dependability. I'd probably start with one of those electric bicycles.

2023 Z-06 is suppose to be 2.6 0-60 or better. We shall see. My Z51 Corvette has been tested 2.8 &2.9 0-60 and 11.1 122MPH thru the quarter mile. The Nova I drove as a drag car 327 Blown would do 10.6 at 136 thru the quarter. Corvette is plenty fast . I am yet to paddle shift or use launch control to run it thru the quarter mile. It accelerates fast enough. IF one day I need more the 6.2 engine has an aftermarket 675HP supercharger install. That should make it as quick as the Z-06

and speaking of fossil fuel vs electric, going green, saving the ozone layers.

AND your friend Brandon is headed for Saudi to do some Axe Whispering to the prince and see if the sweet prince wil SELL us some more oil. I seem to recall Brandon bad mouthed the PRINCE sometime back for something like maybe causing someone to evaporate. Did Brandon forgive the Prince or just maybe forget about the incident?

Maybe Brandon thinks the oil from that area is not fossil type due to fossils not be as likely to live in the hot sands??????????????
