My wife buys a dried package of this and then boils it for maybe 20 minutes (adds teaspoon of salt) and serves it. Just lacking some favor! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, spaetzle is a side dish like dumplings. It's normally served with a meat and brown gravy dish like sauerbraten. It is great on a soup or stew, also.
You can make a stroganoff, or use it in goulash. Easiest is to mix it with cheese in a casserole and bake it until the cheese on top browns. Served with crumbled bacon or shrimp and Alfredo sauce sounds good too. Bob

Eat something with more flavor.

While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche

Try boiling it in chicken broth for starters.
Treat it like any other noodles or even white rice, some folks like with nothing but butter, salt & pepper, I always liked it with Schnitzel and brown gravy.
add more salt
bullshot-Like that thought, as well as all the others. When she makes duck or a pork roast she normally makes the spaetzle. I'll suggest she might possibly want to try the chicken brooth approach. (=:
I put ketchup on my ketchup. Seems fitting for a bland noodle recipe.
I am in...
cook in broth of your choice till done , sauté an onion finely chopped in butter (at least a couple of tablespoons) till just turning brown, add pepper&salt, and a little garlic powder, add the cooked spaetzle to the pan with the onions, sauté for another couple of minutes, serve as a side with or without a good brown gravy, Enjoy!
Tank, a julienned flip flop would taste good sauteed in butter and onion.
beat it.....flour it......and fry it.............call it spaetzle
My wife also uses broth in lieu of water in some of her rice dishes. different broths (chicken, beef, etc) can be used for different recipes.
