Will be up there in Oct to try to thin your herd down. Hope the weather cools off by then.

South Carolina is overrun with deer. Four plus month hunting season. Here in the mountains the season is 3 weeks. limit is 3 deer.

Rather than a hunting season, the deer regs in South Carolina are a cry for help from South Carolina DNR.

    Savage, will you help?

I know there must have been a buck or two around here because the crop of fawns was pretty good this year. A couple with twins and even one with triplets as well as some singles. A lot of fun to watch the little ones scamper around the yard and pester the does. Unfortunately, it seems that a bunch of the locals are determined that bucks never get beyond a year and a half old before they are harvested. I've done an awful lot of deer hunting and harvested my share of deer in the past, but haven't hunted around home for the past 20 years. Spikes and little forkies hold no allure so again I will go further afield to get my whitetail fix. For me it won't start at until the middle of November, but the archery folks will get a 6 week head start since their season starts Oct 1st. Bob

Used to hunt in Illinois. They had a 2 season shotgun season. First season we always shot a 8 pointer or bigger. If not successful, the second season was anything bigger than a forkie.

Seen a couple bucks a couple days ago, they were still in velvet. I’m in west central Illinois. Bow has always started first day October, runs till middle of January. Shotgun first week end before Thanksgiving 3 days, week end after Thanksgiving for 4 days.

I only hunt for meat. Hunting alone in this stage of my life and dealing with back problems, I also tend to take smaller deer.

On the bright side, tenderness does prevail! 😋

Archery season opens Sept 15th here in MO.....Switching over to a crossbow this year.. Old man issues will keep me closer to home this year. Hopefully my sons will be able to join me for a few hunts this fall !!

Our elk and deer archery opens 30 August here in SE Idaho.

and green grass elk taste better than brown grass elk, you just have to be more judicious in handling so you don’t lose any meat to spoiling, even if it means long rides in the dark to pack them out.

William-Used to bow hunt in Ill. Just what restrictions, if any, are placed on "crossbows" these days?

Not sure about Illinois law these days.....I got out of there after I retired....

In MO you can use a crossbow through out all of archery season...
