Midway playing games with prices. Et too Midway?

WulfmannWulfmann Member Posts: 4,904 ✭✭✭

I have shopped at Midway since 1994. I often wait for their "Free shipping" promotion to place an order

This morning I received an email that Free shipping was back for 2 days so I activated the free shipping code and began to clicked on the items I wanted and started to place them in the cart.

All those items showed the same sale price that had been for weeks but in the cart they showed the full non sale price

I called CS and they said I needed to refresh my browser to see the correct prices

Wut?

You see the minute the free shipping starts their computer resets all their prices

Seriously, not kidding

At first I thought it was just the couple things I wanted but I started adding one thing after another on sale in the cart and every one came up full price, no sale price. I am talking dozens of items

CS said I needed to close my browser and restart my computer. I swear they said that

Instead I opened a different browser and sure enough all the prices were reset to full prices

All the moment free shipping started

In a free market charge whatever you want but raising prices to claim free shipping as a gift is a lie, it is deception and it is wrong and Midway should be ashamed of themselves

Watch for the end of free shipping then open a different browser while your primary browser still shows the same full prices and see if the old sale prices reappear. I am curious to see if that happens

Midway was always on the higher side of pricing but they were straight shooters, they were fair.

Were!!

Now they seem to be saying if you are dumb enough to trust them you deserve to be ripped off

what I hate and refuse to do business with are the company's that say put it all in your cart and shipping will be calculated at check out and its th elast think they will add after plugging in all your info and cc number I have backed out many times after some crazy amount comes up for shipping I no longer will even go thet far into it most places have a place you find a item add you zip code and th eshipping will come up .

I do deal with the places that are up front you can check shipping way before checking out must be a game also

    some places play

I don't think Larry Potterfield still owns Midway. I always thought Potterfield was a class act. Over the years I called CS quite a few times. Two different times Larry answered the phone himself. One was a scope question and he was very helpful. I have noticed that Midway is changing but not in a good way.

I started using Midway clear back around 1980. All they sold was bulk brass but that bulk brass was the lowest price I could find anywhere!

1980?? Lord that's been a while! I'm guessing Larry up and retired.

Ecklers Automotive does it somewhat the same way. They have "closeout" prices for the auto I have in their computer, cheap money, then I get to checkout, shipping is like I just bought a 20 pound brick of lead which more than offsets the "clearance" prices.

I do understand calculating shipping at checkout, so they can base it on weight and required box dimensions. Legitimate sellers use this to good effect to make it fair to both parties, but some use it just as you describe. They are banking on the idea that by the time you've shopped and gotten that far, that you don't want to take the time to do it again somewhere else.

Sometimes, a similar but opposite thing can be done. We were moving some years back and needed a moving truck for our larger items. We went to the usual suspects such as Uhaul, Hertz, etc. Even though I have been in I.T. for 25 years (at that point), I never thought about cookies being used to tell if you are shopping around. After we shopped a bit and came back to the first couple of places, their prices mysteriously went down by a not insignificant amount.

Another example. On Amazon if over $25 free shipping or so they say. If you elect free trial (Prime) shipping is free and you can cancel Prime later on. Other choice is standard shipping. You won't get free shipping if you spend over $25 and don't choose PRIME.

If I missed something someone please inform me.------------------------Ray

OR, you could get a really good deal on a internet gun auction and the shipping is double what it should be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only time I have ever paid for shipping on Amazon is from one of their third party sellers. I don't have prime and I just wait until I need enough stuff to go over the minimum for free standard shipping. I realize they negotiate to get a lot cheaper shipping rates than you and I can get, but I find it amazing that I can get a better price and the shipping cheaper than local on some stuff. Sam's club is the same. If my local store is out of something, I order it on line for the same price and get free shipping. With shipping rates going up drastically lately, I wonder how long they can continue to offer free shipping? Bob

BobJudy, I purchased 3 Gun Socks from Allen for $26+ but still had to pay standard shipping. I also don't have PRIME. Total came to $32 and change.

Lot cheaper at Wallyworld $5 and change each. They have been out of stock for six months. ---------------------------Ray

We used Prime since it first came out. It's more than paid for it's self even if I didn't buy anything we watched enough of the movies to make it worth the purchase. It really paid for it's self when June was dying and I had to buy medical supplies a few times a week along with everything else we needed since I couldn't leave the house for over a year a half in order to go pick something up.

Not just on-line stores, even local stores (example: Tractor Supply and Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot) will have an item marked at a certain price on the shelf but when you get to the check-out counter low & behold it's a higher price, never cheaper. NOPE, I don't like some company trying to scam me, I'll tell them to keep the item and let them do the restocking. It's useless to say anything to the checkout people, when brought to their attention all they can do is stutter some mum-bo-jumbo language. I save thousands each year catching these crooks.

I totally quit Amazon a couple years ago. I had ordered a sofa thru them (and I had Prime) and after a month wait, got a message that my sofa had been delivered. NOPE! Nothing here! I got a run around from the seller who had already taken my money the day I had ordered it.

Long story short, it took me another month and a half having to send a crapload of paperwork as proof to the Prime Credit Card people who took the side of the seller. My proof finally was accepted as the tracking said the sofa was sent out for delivery some 500 miles from my home and delivery took place an hour later!!! 😲

After reimbursement of my money, I told Amazon and their credit card to KMA and have been very happy doing business with Walmart for much of my online shopping ever since!

Shopped with Midway since it first started and and sold reloading stuff only. Rarely shop there now. Midway is today no different than Dicks sporting goods. The clothing and non gun stuff now seems to be their main interest now along with high prices.

Would not be surprised if like Dicks they quit selling ARs and their accoutrements in the near future to satisfy the "Woke" DEMOCRAT crowd..

Strange used free shipping the other day and prices did not change on me. Of course I was shopping the clearance items.

Best Time to hit up Midway is on the Birthday deal. Make sure you are signed up for the Birthday promotions. Easily 30-4%0 off regular pricing.
