I'm looking for a wooden Remington 870 .20 ga. Wingmaster stock and have found one that's say's it's for a 870 express model, is there a difference in the receivers for that to be mentioned and if so with a slight modification would it work ?? I'm not really concerned about the finish, just a working gun. Thanks for any input.

It should fit but it definitely won't look good. The express is birch and ugly but it will function the same as the walnut Wingmaster. Bob
The one shown is Walnut and that fact caught my eye also, not even sure if the seller knows what he's selling. Agree the birch wouldn't look good, I'd rather have a beat-up walnut stock than the birch. I'm not even sure the Express was made in .20 ga., maybe so, that I'll check on. Thanks for the input 👍️. BP

theres a complete set for sell that look nice on the dock of the bay
pretty sure I got one on trade, 20ga express, few years back and seem to remember the stock/forearm were greenish tinted, sold it to a cousin for his grandkids.......
Yeah they definitely made 20 GA express versions. I sold a bunch of them back in the day. The wooden stocks varied a bit over the years. Plain brown stained birch was the original and then they went to a birch laminate. I saw several shades of the laminate including one version with a green hue. Mechanically and dimensionally I believe both the express and the Wingmaster were the same. Just a much cheaper finish on the metal and a MUCH cheaper stock. Bob
Be careful what you buy. The animals can spot an ugly stock a mile away, and hide and laugh at you as you walk by.
That's very possible 😀, this barrel has been shortened down to 19" and equipped with a Hogue pistol grip which is OK but I'd much rather have a full sized wood or even maybe shorter stock, not composite/plastic. VARIAN, that's the one I'm looking at, Nunn had one on here a few months back I was watching but like many things in life I completely forgot about it and it slipped away.

I have had 870 Express shotguns that came with walnut stocks. They the dull matte finish, but definitely walnut.
I suggest that you assume that any 870 or 1100 part you buy will not fit & you may want to return it.

Mine started to delaminate from my 20ga Wingmaster. Mine is an older model. I called Remington and they sent me new stocks. They came as plain jane stocks. very upsetting, but that gun is just a tool to me. I ended up buying an original set off ebay. Love them. I think I might have a new one for your gun. Remington accidentally sent me two pairs. Let me look and see if I can find them. I might even have them at my cabin. Oak
I've never been an assumer about anything, I've have read articles stating there's a difference in the receivers/stock wrist end between .12 ga. and that the 20's and 16ga.'s were smaller on Wingmaster 870's and the Express model was a whole different animal. That's why the gauges are marked/stamped on them. It seems several on here are saying there's no difference, just order away. 🙄
