I was firing single rounds in my Garand. Third time , I could hear the firing pin hit...round never went off. Now I can't pull back the bolt handle. Any ideas?
Its now sitting in a gun case waiting a trip to the gunsmith...

"Live Round" in the chamber? That's going to cost extra. If you can find a smith who'll deal with it.
I say find and join a Garand Forum then ask the "expert" there.
drop the trigger assy
Follow up... I got the round out. I examined it.. there was an indent in the primer. A dud. Why I had trouble pulling back the bolt, I don't know...it works fine now.
With the Garand, you should always load rounds in the standard 8 rd clip, or the reduced round clip called a "SLED". Do not lock the bolt back & drop a single round in the chamber.

Thanks! Good to know...
ltcdoty - Did you AK the charging handle? Like kick starting a motorcycle?
I don't know what I did. I fiddled with the charging handle again after I let it sit for awhile. I yanked on it, it came back and ejected the round.
Beware of the Garand "fhumb"
Do not lock the bolt back & drop a single round in the chamber.
There is no bolt lock on the Garand----I wish there was----Don't ask me why!!
After the fact: The possible reason for the stuck bolt and light strike= a slightly oversize case that prevented the bolt from going fully into battery and also resisted extraction.
If it's ammo related, what type of ammo used? new factory, reloads, surplus military, foreign , old ?
A tiny bit of grit, dirt, an out of spec case, are only a few things that could stop a full chambering, and cause hard extraction.
Clean and quality ammo along with a clean chamber and proper loading using a grand clip is essential
for proper and consistent operation .
