Beef tongue and dystopian movie weekend.
Getting to the last bits of eats out of the freezer now. Other than hot dogs and bacon I have very few things in the freezer. I'll have to take the hot dogs and bacon while the joint gets fumigated. 'Cos I'm not eating that any time soon.
So beef tongue. I'll boil it so I can peel the skin. I'd like to be able to peel it Japanese style but for something I have every once in a while it's too much work.
While I was reading a email from my bro's kid who moved to Reno, Nevada from Tehas she was yapping about how Californians are invading the rest of the country. She herself is a born and raised Californian that moved to Tehas back in '08. Silly girl. Anyhow the conversation turned to how California will start resembling the slums in the movie "Elysium" and I thought to add "Chappie", "Dredd" (LOVE THIS MOVIE) and throw "The Book Of Eli" to round out the future of California. "Elysium" and "Chappie" use similar patrol bots and has my favorite South African actor Sharlto Copley.
I do have a bit of salsa frozen I could use for beef tongue tacos? that means I'll have to stop and get tortillas. I got some time to decide before Friday. Maybe something interesting will pop up on the weekly ads that will round out the eats?

Yosh, I had lunch in a 120-year-old Basque restaurant yesterday. Ordered a beef tongue sandwich and the waitress asked "With garlic?" I nodded yes. Then she said, "You know this is a Basque place, so 'no garlic' means 'with garlic' and 'with garlic' means 'WITH GARLIC' don't you?"
And it was. And in a 10-inch roll smothered in onions and green peppers. Magnificent.
Also, like any Basque place, it came family style with lots of "goeswits" in the form of a tureen of cabbage soup, green salad, french fries and fresh bread.
Hey Rocky, is that place local down there?
Sounds like a spot I need to check out out .
Mule
No, it was in Nevada.
The only way I have ever eaten beef tongue has been pickled with onions and garlic cloves. I really like it and am sure eating it fresh on a sandwich would be great!
You guys need to come to Texas and have beef tongue tacos.........delicious.
I get lengua tacos here all the time, and they certainly are!
Rocky Raab - I like the sound of that restaurant. You start with garlic and finish with garlic. Like the French with butter.
mohawk600 - I reckon the beef tongue will turn in to tacos. I have some dried Ancho or something that looks like it that I should use instead of pack it in the van. I'll boil it and start packing the kitchen cabinet food stuffs in to the van in preparation for the fumigation. After all I'll have like 3 to 4 hours to kill.
I save deer tongue and once bear. I recommend reading "The Road" also the movie.
elubsme - "The Road", huh? Didn't buy that one. I see Molly Parker is in that one. I like that Canadian red head.
So how was the bear tongue?
Small, but good, we pickled it. Bear quality is determined by what they are eating. This one was dining on elderberries and was very good. Everyone who tried it, liked it. We have seen 7 so far this year and the season goes until after Christmas. We are hoping for snow. The road has Vigo Mortensen and Charlize Therone in it.
The beef tongue came out pretty good. I could have put a few less bay leaves. I saw a Mexican dude on youtube cut up the tongue before cooking to lessen the cook time? Since it was in Mexican with no English subtitle I don't know. But it seemed like a good idea. I cut in threes. The tip, middle and the back. The back is the best if you were wondering. By cutting in to threes the cook time was no different. Basically you cook until the tongue skin/membrane comes off easy. I think it took 5 hours?
I could have used a potato masher to make taco meat. Yes it was that tender.
Just imagine cooking your own tongue for 5 hrs Yosh...............I bet it would also fall apart.
But will the taste bud membrane pull off easily?
Saw Divergent. Dystopian is not my cuppa.
Need to watch "Six string Samurai". It's a fun alternate history Dystopian movie. Elvis is the King, and the King is dead.....
Saw 2020. Not my cuppa either.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I need to find this. My life is meaningless without it. Kind a reminds me of "Cherry 2000" but unlike this movie I need "Six String Samurai". I see it came out in 1998. I wasn't into movies for another few more years. Palm Pictures I used to get used DVDs of theirs when Hollywood/Blockbusters would sell their movies.
I think I saw either Netflix or Amazon Prime has The Road. I read the book and then saw the movie years back. It's a rough one. The Book of Eli is my all time favorite Dystopian Future movie.
...Ive heard tongue tastes a lot like regular beef, but I aint eatin' no tongue, or animal organs, kidneys, brain, heart ect...
Tex, you sound just like Archie Bunker from All in the family when he refused to eat anything that came out of a cows mouth. When poor Edith asked him what he would like, he told her to just make him some EGGS! 😁
