A hypothetical

Let's say you had to choose between a M1911 Colt and a Smith & Wesson revolver of the same period (say a Model 1905). If value of the gun is not a consideration, which one do you want to carry for self defense?

I did not know there was a gunfight involved. Don
The 1911 in a hypothetical gunfight, my op only.
Always be prepared Don.

I don't own either of the choices so hypothetically I'd probably have some sort of a Ruger... but then again is it night or daylight? Then again the 1911 would have more rounds, dam I wasn't expecting a quiz.. maybe I'll just go eat dinner and hope for the best... Was this just for fun? is there a correct answer? So many questions and answers... Did I have a beer or two, before this "gun fight"? Maybe I was just out with my shotgun... inquiring minds want to know...
1911
JMHO
your indecision cost you.

If it is a gunfight... I am the guy with the shotgun
1911 with extra mags!
Ok but hypothetically I had on my armor and although it hurt some I survived the initial onslaught and then blew the bad guy away with whatever gun was nearest to me, there are several to choose from..😁
M1911
Hypothetically, of course.

Darn guys, it's just a hypo question, just answer it 😐️1911 or Smith--
1911 @Mr. Perfect ,,@Everyone
Wellll...... Since they are still making Colt 1911's and it has outlived all of the S&W models of that early 20th century era, I figure there must be a reason. So I'll go with the 1911. Bob
Model 1911. It’s hard to argue with success.
1911, if I must use obsolete technology!
If those are the only choices, I would choose the Colt.
Just to be different and because I really prefer revolvers, I'd take the S&W.
When will you start your giveaway Mr.P?
Gotta go with the 1911.
(My gosh it was hard for my Glock-grippers to type that!)
Not to worry.......Colt or S&W.......I got yer back. 😉.........usually with a Gold Cup......or 686!! 🤨
1911, without a doubt
"I don't entertain hypothetical. The world as it is is vexing enough. ".
Well, if I had the choice, I’d take the 1911.
Nice!!! @Mark G , lucky to have a choice.

I'll take both for a thousand, Alex.
☺️
Smith
I’d choose the Smith
If it was my Smith model 19, I would pick that over an older 1911. For that matter I would pick it over any 1911 if it was my butt on the line!!
My 19 is very special. Before I got it, it had won 2 Ohio State Trooper Championships. I personally put over 50,000 rounds through it. Between what I put through my 19 and the Trooper put through it, it had loosened up a little. I sent it to Nelson Ford for him to tighten it up. Nelson is/was a certified S+W gunsmith. Nelson is good, my 19 came back like a new Model 19.
If I want to embarrass my son or son-in-law in a shooting session that is the weapon of choice. There is something to "muscle memory!!"
I wont even mention that a revolver can't jam. I have shot thousands of rounds through various high end semi's in 45 and 9. The saying about it is not if your semi will jam, it is when, is true. I will concede that with a quality piece, jams are rare.
Why is this even a question?
John Browning designed the perfect pistol with the 1911..........and..............the Hi-Power
