Truck Extended Warranty

4205raymond4205raymond Member Posts: 3,316 ✭✭✭✭

Have a 2020 Ram. Top of the line. A 5yr/100,000 mile extended warranty would be $2010 + Tax. Wearables are no go. Neither is battery. cables, spark plug wires and much more. $100 ded. ea. occurence and i must pay state and local taxes.

That's really only two years added to 3/36!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In service date is Dec 2019 and end date would be Dec 2024 which works out to about $1,100 per year. Truck just turned 12,000 miles yesterday. Some nut backed into my drivers door a year ago and missed killing me by nano seconds. Door was replaced with factory new door and the paint was flawless with a guy I have been going to for 40 years. Still i am on Carfax hit list and it hurts value of truck if I want to trade and buy a new one

My wife is in the hospital again since Tuesday with pneumonia in right lung and some other problems besides tumor in left lung. I am having to pay transport everywhere now because of her mobility. Starting to get real concerned about Money now and just might have to wing it on truck repairs. I still have two more years on power train.

I though why not buy a new truck and start all over? Probably not to smart with only 12,000 miles on mine. Well guess what? The sticker on my 2020 Ram was $65,000. The sticker on a new same exact truck would be $78,000+. Can't blame all this on Chrysler. We need to get rid of some more politicians in DC.-----------Ray

not sure where you are getting your warranty from, aftermarket or dealer, my mechanic suggested route 66, most of the credit unions around here offer it . He told me they have had less trouble with rt66 than any other warranty and I think they come with $50 dollar deductable, and price varies with how many years/miles you want to got to, you may check on price in your area.

Hillbille, it's a factory warranty thru dealer i purchased truck from. I guess most of those warranty commercials you see on TV you call a 800 number. With this warranty you go to dealer finance man with a problem and he goes straight to service manager. ----------Ray

ray my mechanic said they call the number and if approved, which he pretty much knows before hand, they give him a credit card number and it is a done deal. He told me they take care of everything, it is also transferable, or you can get a refund on the time remaining if you sell vehicle. I can't tell you how good they actually are as I haven't had to use it. I got 5 year 100,000 for $1800, for reference mine is 2017 with 25,000. the warranty covers it for the next 5 years and up to 125,000 miles bumper to bumper, minus the wear items.

Hillbillie, that sounds pretty good. I am assuming your original factory warranty was over or almost over if it was a 2017 ? ------------Ray

I think for the most part extended warranties are a rip off! But for a Dodge I might be wrong.

Extended warranties are a gamble and the odds favor the insurance company. Not sure what the commission is for selling them but my dealer sure pushes them. Bob

Have never had an extended warranty in my 79 years. Have almost always done my own servicing. Getting next to impossible to do that anymore. Even when was running the Volvo's needed Vidas or Alldata with other vehicles. Still have the power train coverage. Whats the best out there folks? -------------------Ray

I sold cars, the sale of extended warranties are a HUGE money maker for the dealer. You decide from there.

Thanks for all your posts. I made a slight mistake. I have a 5yr/60,000 power train warranty not 5yr/50,000. So I am good for 2 more years on the power train. The 3/36 runs out in Dec. So, if my sweetheart gets better I will get out of this Socialist State and burn up I81 and I64 between here and Central, Virginia.

I like Austin20's suggestion and thanks for the tip on Diminished Value from a dent in my door that was not my fault. Never liked Allstate (other party's ins) and had to fight them tooth and nail over my rental car fee that took forever to subjugate. Truck was in shop 26 days because of slow delivery of parts and owner had the Covid.

I will Wing it and hope for the best on any needed repairs.-------------------Ray

You have 12K miles in 2 years? I wouldn't even consider an extended warranty. If you feel it's necessary, you're driving the wrong brand.

I wonder if I can get a power train warranty on my truck. It has only 635,000 miles on it.... 😉

I'm sure if you're willing to pay enough some slimy phone marketer would sell it to you!

No extended warranties for us. If something breaks...and only 1 time so far... I will just get it repaired. That also includes appliances , just buy a new one.

One of biggest problems I see now days is all the things trucks are loaded down with (circuit boards, chips, accessories etc. ) After 3/36 you may have to deal with that stuff and it could be very expensive. I can trace wire and read a schematic but those days are gone forever I am afraid. Sometimes i wish you could buy a truck with a dimmer switch in the left floorboard corner😀 ----------------------Ray
