Girlfriend bought a 23 pound Whopper yesterday. I put it in the refrigerator, bottom shelf, and put a thermometer in there four inches away from the big bird, so I could get the air temp. The refrigerator is set at 38 degrees.
One hour later, I saw that the air temp near the turkey was 31 degrees. So I put the turkey in a big cooler in the living room this morning. Temp in there is 36 degrees. I will keep an eye on it.
Did just that about 5 minutes before your post...
Got my turkey marinating
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Done. Thanks for reminder.
Go down to a local restaurant and ask them for a pickle bucket with a rubber o-ring. Soo much easier than that way Randy.
Yupper, sent the turkey and 1/2 a ham home with Grandson. This household is currently 'cook challenged', so anything beyond one dish cookery goes somewhere else.
wife does not like turkey but she did bake one yesterday . she is more of baked ham fan . headed to her sisters on Thursday she is baking th eturkey and my wife taking another ham .
its a close to a family get together we have any more . about 6 to 10 people from our family and her sister in-laws
nothing like what it use to be but they ( my wife and her sister ) try and keep it going
This morning, the giant turkey in the cooler in the living room, the air temp in the cooler is 38 degrees, so the defrosting program is doing well. Should be ready Thursday.
Im taking the family to a restaurant this year.
I have always found that putting a frozen bird in the refrigerator seems to never thaw it out, even after 4, 5, 6, days!
I will give it a couple days then put it in the sink under cold water. Keep changing out the water every couple hours.
I do like the idea of marinating a turkey and was wondering what is your solution recipe @Mr. Perfect ?
Turkey can be Injected for flavoring
My cooler is up to 39 degrees, the thawing is going well. They don't melt right in the refrigerator.
Up to 42 degrees. Damn bird is still pretty much frozen.
Allen, I suggest you put your bird in the sink full of cold water and follow my post above.
My bird is starting to thaw. Temp in the cooler is up to 41,exactly what I want. Tomorrow morning I will put the bird in the sink if necessary. Remember, this is a 23 pound whopper so harder to melt.
