Vehicle...

I bought this 2015 F-150 seven years ago this week. I was thinking back on all the cars and trucks I have owned over the years and this is the longest time I have kept a vehicle.

She has been a good ride all these years. I am retired and drive about 30% of what I used to so this one only has 65K on it. With all the electronics I have wondered how long this critter will roll without costing me arm and a leg to replace some crazy sensors or main computer systems...

Anyway I hope to drive her for a long time. How about you...How long is the longest you have kept a vehicle as your daily driver ?

I bought my 99 F250 in 2011. Can't afford the diesel right now.

My neighbor has three diesel trucks for his farm operation. I don't know how they can keep them all going, not to mention the tractors and combines...😕

We keep most of our vehicles a long time. My current pickup is a 1994 F-250 4x4 diesel that I bought in 2008 for $500.00. I have no current plans to get rid of it. I also drive a 1993 Exploder that we bought in 2007. We have put 120K on it, and probably about 75K on the pickup. I also had a 1967 Chevy K10 that I bought in 1979, and sold in 2001.

Bought my '72 F100 in spring of 1978 with it showing 74K miles. Paid a whopping $800 for it. A lot of fond memories over the eighteen years I owned that pickup.

Last truck was a 1995 F150 bought used with 32000 miles on it in 1997. Sold it for parts in 2020 at close to 350000 miles . Until it died, major computer issue ? , it had cost me less than $1200.00 in parts / repairs over the years . Now if its replacement , a 2018 , does this good i will be set for life .

We have a 94 Dodge truck... 275,000 miles. Not a daily driver anymore. Used to get large loads of hay. As far as I'm concerned they don't make them like that anymore. I wish I could replace it. And it a 5 speed.

68 Bronco. Had it for 52 years. Don’t drive it much. Put the snowplow on it yesterday. It will get a workout in the near future.

A '98 Dodge Ram diesel until fuel went crazy. Bought it in 2008 and it currently has 420,000 miles. Bought an '08 Mercedes Gl320 diesel this year just to save fuel. Still drive my truck once a week.

  • chmechme Member Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭✭

1985 F150 XLT Lariat, Still driving it. Inherited it in 1995. 5-liter V8, no computer, carburetor instead of injectors. Still running original engine, transmission, differential.,

    I have two 1969 camaros

one I bought in 1976 the other I bought at least 15 yrs ago ( the one in my GB page )

still have both of course . will never part with them .

the 1st one my gosh ( best I can do a family friendly site LOL ) the things I did and lived thru all the girls who shared time with me and all the street and track racing way too many memories . sad most all my old car buddies I ran around with and rode with me are departed it reminds me of my old pals and my youth

the last one I bought to have as a toy while I restore the fist one but fell behind on the project . I added a 454 and 4 speed and a truck load of other aftermarket goodies to it .

when I buy a car or truck I am normally in for a long run of ownership we have 2010 element we bought new a 2005 element we bought new we gave my son . I do all my own work so what ever parts cost is what I have in it never count my time 😲

Well.......I bought my 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT-VR4 new.....in 1992.....still in my garage. Red, of course.

Other than my having to repair the ECU and two other computer modules(Nichon Corp. manufactured MANY defective electrolytic capacitors in the1991-92 era), it has served me well all these 30 years.

Currently though, it needs some clutch and a/c work.

But.......the older I get.....the less easy it is to get out of.🤪

    BTW.....still wish I had my first car......a '68 GTO.....red, of course.

My primary farm pickup is a 98 Chevy K3500. I've owned since February 1998 and it's in use daily. It's getting old and cranky(like the owner) and my bum shoulder doesn't like the manual transmission shifting right now so I may have to shift some of it's duties to the 2001 K2500 that I've had since 2004 or 2005.

Consider that these aren't pansy wagon play toys but REAL heavy duty hard use pickups--makes a big diff in over all longevity.

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we want to see some pictures of that!!!

My current vehicle is a 2004 GMC 2500HD SLT extended cab with the 6'6" bed and 6 liter engine. I bought it in 2005 and have put 220,000 plus miles on it. It's given me very few problems over the years. It's hauled a lot of materials to job sites, pulled my boat and carried my camper all over hell's half acre, and I hope to get many more years of use out of it.

Bought this 1995 F250 from dealer new in Sept 1995 still drive it at least once a a week, but I don't drive anything every day, Usually less than 100 miles each week and it is either this or the 2006 F150 I got from my step-dad when he passed about 7 years ago. I probably will never sell the F250 since it was the only new truck I've ever owned, Several new motorcycles over the years and a few cars for the wife, but this one was and is still only mine...

2002 Chevy Duramax, bought new, 260,000 on the clock, rust devoured it.

Got rid of it in 2020.

I do have 1987 JD 550 dozer in very nice condition, bought it in 1988. Still runs and operates perfect but then it only has 1500 hours on the meter.

I drove a 1965 Chevy C10 pickup from 1986 until it was destroyed by an a-hole on a motorcycle who hit it while going 130 mph, in 2012.

In 26 years, I put two transmissions, and one engine in it. It had 459,000 miles on it when it was killed. (The idiot was also killed....)

    I still miss that truck.

My current vehicle and daily driver. 2006 Toyota Tacoma I bought in January of 08 with a little over 30k miles on it. It now sits in my driveway with over 215k miles on it. I really enjoy that it has a manual transmission and four wheel drive though.

slinger, I also had a '53 Stude coupe I bought in '56. 6 cly OD that got about 30 mpg. By '58 I put a 301 mouse in it w/ trips and a 4.56 and managed to get to 5 mpg! I loved that car. Currently I have my '69 Firebird conv't w/ just 65K on it that I bought in '74. I sold my '70 Malibu that I bought in '83 a few months ago. My long term ride in my '70 CBX that I bought new. I took it to Sturgis many times and had the only one there except for one custom I saw at the bike show. I can't ride anymore though. Father time is a real S.O.B.

Sold my 2006 Nissan Frontier to a friend over the summer - 16 years. Wish I could say it was trouble free. It wasn't and I will never buy another Nissan vehicle.
