Lowe's is Backing Off

I asked yesterday what the sign about revised military discount policy meant. It turns out that many things do not qualify anymore. She said that anything already marked at the minimum (whatever that means), sale items, and (most important to me) lumber. It was nice while it lasted.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

Never shop there, prefer Home Depot.
Yep. Total BS. Either you HONOR your vets, and give them the discount, or you don't. Now there are just as many things that don't qualify for the discount as things that DO.
Gives me a bitter taste in my mouth. They want to advertise and benefit from "helping vets" but have all these "gotchas" in there now.

I used to work for Lowe's. It is a terrible company. I never go there now.
You just said so much with few words. Enlightening.
just had whole house carpet intalled, NEVER AGAIN, am waiting on them now to come back to redo the basement and fix all the mistakes, they will promise the moon, but just transfer you to another manager/ promiser if you have a problem.....
I still go to them and yes I was told a couple months ago maybe, that it no longer applied to the lumber, but still got the Military discount on screws and some other hardware along with my Ag tax exempt for the new well house/shed I'm building. My only concern is their employees are always using almost all their carts to stock (block off) areas I always need to get to and forget about asking for any help other than sometimes they help load the truck. Closer to me than HD and usually better looking lumber though...
I still prefer Lowe's to Homely Despot. My local HD has a vet discount policy that is impossible to use. I'm told that the vet discount is up to a given store manager. Fork 'em.
Plus, my HD is dark, dirty, confusing, and devoid of intelligent help.
With the economy the way it is, I can't blame stores for cutting back on discounts, really. They're probably not making much on lumber, and a discount would have them losing money.
At least you get something at LOwes, Home depot says that they are working on it, but their policy is a joke.
Lowes and Home Depot both hire local subcontractors to install carpeting, which is often the lowest bidder. So, quality installation is often hit or miss. Had the same problem you describe with Home Depot and wished that I had gone with a reputable flooring company to do the job.
Like I said........they are terrible...........especially on flooring........cabinets.......doors.......and windows. I you are going to buy pre-made items and install them yourself......well, I would still go to the Depot. If you go to Lowe's for custom orders and installation...........good luck.
BTW........I was a delivery driver............and it was horrible.
I built the addition on my log cabin 6 years ago, everything that is not a 20 foot pine log, or a 4x10 x 24 foot timber I bought at Lowes. 2x10s for the subfloor, 1x12 pine for the board and batten, 2x6 for the rustic ceiling and lots of it, disc sander, sanding belts etc. Spent $54,000 at Lowes. A great store with good products for sale.
I shop at HD and Lowes.
Home Depot in Harriman NY. It is true about HD. I have a note in my wallet and if ever a problem cashier calls HD manager. That ends the problem or sale goes to CS(customer satisfaction) which is the same discount. Manger is a really nice man and is pro Army. He use to work just outside Letter Kenney Arsenal.
Lowes in Chester, NY-------No problems. Period end.
Lowes in Zions Crossroads in Virginia (my second home) They almost always thank me for my service. Really nice folks. Last manager I had contact with escaped Socialist Republic of NY and transferred to Virginia. Smart man. -------------------------------Ray
You think Lowes is bad, we vets have been losing rights we were promised by the federal government on a greater scale.
I don't ask for or expect a discount anywhere.
I don't qualify for hearing aids. Combined household income is over $56,900
I have been a flooring installer for 32 yrs was asked a few yrs back if I would do installs for lowes , went to a meeting to check things out and was shocked to see all jobs posted on a board and everyone was bidding on said jobs, lowest bid got the install. some of the crews in that meeting I would not let into my house !
