I bet all those transplants drive faster when it snows in order to get home before it gets bad.
Yep.
Those transplants need to drive home BEFORE the snow starts falling!!!!!
Sure glad I'm a retired truck driver. Chains required wherever you go here in NorCal.
I had a little girl try to kill herself in front of me yesterday. She was going way too fast and couldn't get stopped and slid right out in front of me on Hiway 2 at a stop sign. I was able to miss her by turning in behind her but I wound up in the ditch and had to get a tow to get out. I had about .02 seconds to decide 'hit her' or 'ditch her'. No damage to my pickup, but I tore a hunk of hide out of that kid verbally. Had I not been able to miss her I fear I'd have T-boned her on the drivers side at about 40 mph. Would not have been good. We had a 'good discussion' about speed and proper tires for the conditions...
We've had the same snow on the ground for 4 weeks or so. It finally warmed up a bit last week, just enough to melt a little of the top during the day, and then refreeze. It was so slick, it made getting to the mail box difficult. I don't need no broken bones.
The weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
Simply no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Not sure if it's the same storm but here is our current road conditions report. Whole state is shutdown basically.
We went home at 5 on Tuesday. I made it to town at noon yesterday and worked there completely by myself for four hours yesterday. We all made it this morning but closed at 11:30. Now it's pretty much a white out. Oh well, getting some extra family time in.
Getting cold here in SW Missouri. So much so, I wish we had a little snow to go with it.
Are studded tires legal in North Dakota?
Yes, but literally no one uses them. They really don't help much.
I just got mine installed yesterday. They work great on icy roads, or in 4 or 5 inches of snow. Not good in a foot of snow.
I couldn't get up my driveway without them. Mine cost $1,003.
Prognosticators are saying we could get some Monday and Thursday. Between a dusting and a foot... 😆 🤣
I broke down and ordered / received a set of snow chains for the 285/70R17 tires I have on my Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Willys.

I've been volunteering with Facebook Missouri 4x4 Recovery group doing vehicle recoveries around these parts.

I have recovered 2 pickups and a 40ft RV with my Jeep and 12k Harbor Freight Badlands synthetic winch so far. I figure if and when the snow hits we'll be busy. I advertised our group with a couple local community facebook pages.
Good on you,drobs. @drobs
Thanks, it's all part of the Off Road Addiction - using recovery gear and dealing with different situations presented. It's actually a lot of fun.
Absolutely ^^^^
Tire chains are great. They will get you through just about anything.
However they are a hassle to put on. And you can't use them on dry asphalt. That is why, early winter I install the studded tires, and I take them off in Spring.
The Diamond style chains are easier to put on and take off, but still a hassle. We really don't get enough snow or wintry conditions to justify snow tires here in SW MO.
The wife and I both have LR4s
we put snow tires on hers for the winter, and I run all seasons year round.
there is a noticeable difference on snow and ice with the winter tires. The all seasons, however will always get me where I need or want to go.

Don, do you mean your wife has studded snow tires?
Some Swedish make of traction tires. No studs.

I think it ended in 2016. Ours are both 2013 models. 2013 was the last year they came with a V-8.

Do you still have your Jeep?
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
The Commander was a great rig for over 160,000 miles, but was worth $3,000. I was at the point where the brakes and front struts had to be replaced and the tranny was not shifting well into 3rd gear, along with needing tires. In short, I could have put 5 grand into a 3 grand rig and ended up with a 3 grand rig. The LR4’s are heavier, do better in snow and mud, and get 30%+. Ether mileage.
Jeep is long gone

I contemplated an old Land Rover before buying my Jeep Wrangler Willys. I think it would be kind of fun to have a 60's era military diesel with a manual transmission or a Left Hand Drive diesel LR Santana from Spain. Ultimately, in my mind, the Jeep Wrangler is America's LR, G-Wagon, etc.
The Wrangler is an Iconic America vehicle right up there with the Mustang & Corvette and is built for off roading. Which is different from vehicles that can go off road but are built for the highway. An example of that would be my Toyota 4Runner.
We have a couple LR guys in my Off Road Club. I led them on one of the more difficult trails last year in the snow with my Toyota.
Springfield, MO has a company that specializes in rebuilding Land Rovers. They have some nice vehicles.

One of the 2 guys I've hit the trails with works there and might be a family member. He's a white African.
I had to chuckle a bit when looking at your pictures, @drobs
What you've called a 'difficult trail' most folks where I live would just call 'the driveway'. Perspective, I guess.
Speaking of which, I'd better go plug the tractor in so I can blow the foot of fresh snow off of it.
I could see that as the majority of it is an easy trail and we were stopped for the picture in one of scenic sections. The last section is steep rocky hill climb with ledges that you need to bump your vehicle up and over. There is a potential to roll a vehicle at that last section.
I figured it must get a bit more tricky than what was in your pictures!
Heavier and get better mileage? Wow! Guess I need to look closer at them in the future.

It's weather like this that really makes me miss Eugene.
