I went into the city for some business and stopped at a local chain gas station for a coffee.
As I was walking out the door I noticed that on each side of the door there were rulers on the door frame. I think they started at 4 foot but did not notice the lower limit as I was looking at the higher limit 7 ft.
The markings must be for when the store gets robbed so the clerk can give the height of the robber easier?

Yes Sir. They have been used for many years.
Walk with your knees bent, they'll never catch you.
First time I ever noticed them in a building.
When I am in the City I am always watching what is happening around me to stay out of trouble so I never looked that closely at the building itself.
I am short and fat so I may get under the lower height on the ruler but may not make it through the door width if I bend my knees.😀
All banks have them. Almost every gas station has them. And yes they are for identifying how tall a perp is.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
they have been in use for many years
being short I thought wow you must be this tall to rob the place?
Yep that has been around for many years.
I am thinking the camaras are more effective.
"Now, I'm between six-one and six-six depending on which convenience store I'm leaving." Ron White in his "Getting kicked out of a Bar" Story. Don
They have them in the rest rooms too!
Camera don't give a visual "height" Scale and camera=gotcha.
yep, see them all over
On the toilet seat???
Reminds me of my youth. When Matt Dillon (6’ 7”) on Gunsmoke, walked through a door, with hat on, and never lowered his head to clear the opening.
Must’ve kept the carpenters busy remodeling doors on the movie sets ,,,,,,, 🙄
They build those stores with windows across the front. That way employees can see who's just outside, before they enter. Also, people & the police can see what's going on inside. But management put shelves up & post signs to block this view.
They're like a rangefinder when you're pissin' for distance.
On those very rare trips I have taken to the big city, the first thing I noticed about most retail places were all the hinged bars on the doorways and windows! 😳
Cameras are more effective, you are correct. These rulers used in conjunction with a camera system gives some additional perspective that a camera alone cannot.
