My team here wanted Mexican for lunch.....
Two nights ago I met my Aunt for dinner at a Mexican place (her choice.)
I've just been invited to go to dinner with a friend and her husband, they are going to a Mexican place after work today.
Do people in Mexico have this issue? Do they not get heartburn or get tired of all the seasoning making things taste pretty much the same.
I think I'm going to bring a PBJ sandwich with me....just kidding. I do like the food, but this is getting serious now.....another meal this week and I'm sure I'll know Spanish.

For the most part, people in Mexico don't eat what we call "Mexican" food.

Depends, some weeks we may have it as many times as you have this week. Then we get on to another cuisine like Chinese or Italian.
1967, left out of El Paso via of train for a hunting trip near Chihuahua, Mexico. Circumstances had prevented any food for 17 hours.
Two hours later the train stopped at a hole in the wall restaurant. The menu was ‘painted’ on the wall behind the bar. Not being versed in Spanish I pointed at what a local next to me was eating.
A large bowl appeared with a delicious aroma. I don’t know if my hunger trumped any picky gastrointestinal hesitation or not ,,,,,,,,,,,,, but damn that Menudo was delicious.
Never heard of too much Mexican food myself... I go through more packages of tortillas (corn and Flour) than I do bread in a week and as mentioned what Americans call Mexican food isn't what Mexicans in Mexico eat... I find Cajun food more spicy than most Mexican Restaurants, but that's maybe just me. I feel deprived if I don't have some sort of Taco, Burrito, or Enchilada at least 4 times a week they can be breakfast, lunch or Dinner it's all good! If fact I got a roast beef in the crock pot right now that will be used for some burritos tonight, the left over meat will be for French dips sandwiches and or enchiladas over the next day or so.
Once is too much, at least the texmex stuff we are subject to. The real deal is most enjoyable if one can find it.
I am sure 84 will be along shortly with his taco craving habit.

we use to go about once a week now maybe once a month
my youngest son has a group of Mexicans working with and for him ( so many stories but not today )
of course he eats a lot with them some good some not so good , his friends even own ( I think they still do ) local popular Mexican restaurants
when we would go to one he would order stuff not on the menu and they made just for the Mexican locals any way like rocky stated most is American made up food called Mexican to match American taste and demand
and sadly no we did not get free or discounts. 😥

I ate so many microwaved burritos from at the convenience store when I was single, it's a wonder I have a stomach.
Wife's cousin from Tucson sends us authentic tortillas. They also turned us onto Sonora Dogs.

I once made a fishing trip down from the border almost to Monterey. At every village, my friend and I ate at tiny little places. Every meal began with a soup of some kind, and while there were often frijoles and frijoles refritos, I can't say it was with every meal. Tortillas, yes.
It was in Mexico that I came to believe that mesquite-roasted kid goat is the finest meat on planet Earth. Dayom, that's good.
I did not turn my nose up at ant larvae, grasshoppers, or anything else they served me. And was rewarded for the courage.
They eat well down there, even if it's peasant food.

We eat the gringo style Mexican food, and it suits us just fine. 3-4 meals a week would be about right, but i's usually like once every other week on the average.

No mohawk600, you only go once and you can't help but remember it for 5 days. Rocky Raab is right. The "Mexican" chains are not traditional food. The best Mexican food I ever had was when I stopped for the first time in Cheyenne for the night on my way to Sturgis. It was late afternoon and I wandered in to this restaurant. Very few customers as it was so early. I'm sure that I was the only one there that spoke English as their first language. Best Mexican food I've ever had. Try the mom & pop Mexican restaurants guys.
Got a cousin who was a truck driver for years.. went to Mexico quite a bit...he said nobody could cook a horse like the Mexicans...
I survived the third meal of the week. I don't think I will risk trying for number 4 though.
When we went on one of our road trips to Texas there was a place across from the hotel.....lit up like a neon space ship.....Tex-Mex of some kind. I swear, that was one fancy outfit with choices that had to be created by actual top level chefs. It was the first "fancy" Mexican food place I'd ever seen. I got some shrimp and red snapper ordeal that looked like it should have been photographed for a food magazine. It was amazing!
I've stuck with the basic mushroom quesadilla lately......chuncky guacamole. What could go wrong there?
I used to eat it at least 5 days a week, it is New Mexico after all, but eventually my gut would no longer take it, and it is pretty darn fatttening after all. Now once a month if I am lucky.
I love Mexican food but the older I get the less it likes me, especially the jalapenos which of course is my favorite pepper.
I've never been a really hot pepper fan (food shouldn't hurt) but from a flavor standpoint jalapenos are the bomb.
American I worked with he was a engineer not that it mattered but I talked a lot to him about his home place and life styles interesting place and life styles to be sure
Any way we talked about Mexican food he agreed what we call Mexican is just American version that meet our taste
He said his favorite food soor i do not recall the ne i think t started with a b it would some wild guess for me to try now but it involved goat meat buried in the ground for several days
He loved it but to me sounded like a sure trip to the hospital lol
I wish all the best to him his goal was to save up some money and go back home and have a good life
We have a place here in Ogden that serves genuine interior Mexico food. It's called El Paisa. It has an all-you-can-eat taco bar but the real menu is simply fabulous. Peruse it here...

We also have a place that serves nothing but Sinoloan-style open-pit chicken. He cooks 40 to 50 chickens every night, and serves them up the next day. If he runs out, it's tough luck until tomorrow. Senor Pollo's is the name, and they don't even have a website. Tiny place - used to be a Quizno's - with picnic tables inside for service. It's scrumptious.

That depends on how good the margaritas are!
D-R Goat meat is Cabrito sometimes called Birria or chivo depending upon the age of the goat and mostly how it is cooked, not a fan of goat myself but many folks love it. I prefer beef dishes sometimes chicken.
Eating a homemade beef, rice, beans onions cheese and salsa burrito as I type this....
Forgot about barbacoa is also made with goat sometimes though around here it mostly beef and /or pork and chicken, it was traditionally cooked in the ground but not so much these days, folks use smokers a lot, but it is probably what your friend was talking about it is basically a slow cooked meat dish in the south/central America regions before the Spanish even arrived here in the Western world.
If you ever had kid goat roasted over mesquite, you'd change your order of favorites meats. It beats beef hands down.

off subject and sorry I have to add about Al what every one called him I think his real name at least part of it was aldolpho
the small town he was from he said no one owned a refrigerator each meal they would go into the town and buy it for a dollar or less .
his family had and were constructing a one kitchen central room in the house and each family member added their own wing ? to the central kitchen as their living and sleeping areas and shared all the cost of the place he was working on his section when we worked together he could not wait to move back
and the company seem to agree they finally booted him out
his wife could not speak any English never left the house unless going back to mexico to visit with him . she could not and he would not let her learn to drive . he did later on get cable TV with Spanish speaking station she could watch what a great guy LOL . but he was not much on allowing his wife to do any thing

Best gun buddy and I went to gun show in Charlotte, several years ago. Stopped at a newly opened Mexican food joint for lunch at Concord Mills. You know near Bass Pro shop. His preferred meal, cheap and plentiful as he always bought the meals.
Saw his wife a few days later and she said never again should I take him there.
I can eat it almost three or four times a week, but thank God I'm 75% Italian. My wife has learned to hate Pasta, Olives, peppers and cheese. Donna is Amish, so all she eats is German food, that I absolutely hate with a passion. 🤮!!! I would rather eat the balls off a road killed raccoon, than German food.

Spent almost two years in Germany and I would eat their food almost as much as Mexican, but near 45 years of traveling the US never found but one or two restaurants that made it like I had over there, too bad they were not anywhere near I live, so it's Mexican and my own American recipes for the most part of my diet...
Just because we've been talking about it, I took SWMBO to El Paisa today. I had Birria De Res. It was fabulous. It came with a little tub of hot sauce. I have always thought restaurant "hot sauce" was a sham. Until today. That little tub had to be ghost pepper sauce. Ay chihuahua! Almost too hot for me - and that's saying something.
