DONE. Glad that's over. How you doing?

Aww heck, is it already April 14th?
Before you know it,,,
I think we have until April 18th this year........again!!
I quit drinkin' when I didn't have to itemize anymore.
Turned mine into the CPA yesterday. Now the drama begins.
Started collecting the forms as they arrived in the mail last month, will have to go online to get info for some accounts usually, also download the latest software and then enter the info and file an extension about a day or so before they are due (the 18th this year as mentioned above) then finally file sometime between May and August whenever I need the refund to pay some bills... that's my routine.
We are still gathering info and plugging numbers into our quickbooks. We will hand this over to the accountant soon and she will call us later to tell us what we missed. I'm sure I've overpaid again, so I know I'll not owe anything....but I'm on the fence with the decision to just apply it to next year or not. A few years back we messed up and had underpaid, when the dust settled, I had to pay over $11,000....having that mess happen screwed my mind up and I just keep sending checks to the IRS every month or so now. I've over paid by several thousand every year since that horrific nonsense happened. Its frustrating because I hate the fact that they just "have" my money....but I cannot imagine going through that ordeal again.
That is when I would have started the celebration. Don't have all the 1099's yet.
Wifey is trying to figure them out. Moving from one State that withheld taxes to one that doesn't is a pain. Looks like we can't use our tax credits from the other State either, which leaves a chunk of money on the table for big brother...
Done and filed. The IRS scares me so bad with their unlimited power to destroy lives I simply file short form and forget about any deductions I may be entitled too. I am getting a few bucks back I hope they choke on what they took from me.
With two companies and everything that goes into compiling all the info for them we do an extension and we get the corporate returns by the due date in September and then finish off the personal for the October due date. That way we can look at deductions to make sure we have them all and calculate contributions to our pension plans.
We just pay in a large amount with the extensions to be safe. We have never gotten a refund, we just roll it over because for sure we are going to owe again the next year.
I just got, what I think is, the last of my tax statements yesterday. So I will be doing filing soon, but not this week.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Still working on them.....Appt with accountant in 2 weeks.
Wow. State refund processed and issued, in 4 days!! Impressed, as I know they are very short handed.
MT. seems to have their stuff in order..
Give unto Ceasar that which is Caesars...
I'll start working on mine in a couple weeks, I have a sizeable farm, a feed business, several rentals, w-2 income from the gun store I run, part owner in the llc we run for the Lazer engraving we do plus my wife's stuff. My return is about an inch thick it seems like. I used to hate it but since I've done it enough times it seems like it gets easier every year.
We did ok. $2100 back from Uncle Sugar. WA has no State Income Tax(although those rats in Olympia keep trying to put one in place). Wife & I split it and I bought a 1911.
I will write the check when I have to. Not before I have to.
The way things are going I wonder how long it will be before, with will may become a cashless society, we simply send the IRS a signed check. They already have all our info and will just fill in the amount of what we owe.
We'll be getting back from the feds just about the same amount we owe Montana.
(A price we're happy to pay, by the way, to live in one of the last relatively free states.)
We usually run opposite situation, @NeoBlackdog , get back from state and apply that to what is owed to Feds. Usually break even like that each year. This year was first year for retirement, and was a little off on with holdings for the year. Wound up owing more to Feds than anticipated. Adjustments have been made.
The IRS is getting close to being able to file your return for you. Starting quite a few years ago they required investment firms to start tracking what you paid for a stock.
That way the IRS has all the info to figure your gain or loss.
I didn’t have to itemize anymore after I quit drinking.

You didn't get it back, you just paid in too much. Many years ago I figured it was to my benefit to owe them instead of me overpaying. Now if you had invested that $2100............................................You would probably have made enough to take Mrs. Ruger out to a nice dinner.
