Picked up a hitch-hiker. Seemed like a nice guy. After a few miles, he asked me if I wasn't afraid that he might be a serial killer. I told him the odds of two serial killers being in the same car were extremely unlikely.

    Lol

When I was younger I picked up every hitchhiker I came up on when by my self

As did my buddies or if we were together we would do the same

Some interesting people we met and countless stories . When I met my going to be wife (no was not hitch hiking lol) she said no more it's too dangerous .so I stopped

One comes to mind right now

We were in two cars my buddies and I on the way back from the Dayton mall when it was a big deal

There was a group of four so we pulled over split the group between the two cars

We found out They were for lack of better term Jesus freaks headed to the way a big sorta cult I would call it

Any way I was driving one car my Mustang and the other buddy was in a Galaxie

At that time speed limit was what ever we could do

So we were cutting traffic just hauling butt then started playing bumper tag

Willie one of my buddies was in the back seat with a couple of the riders he took off all his clothes why I have no idea he was just nuts

Started waving his underwear at the other car

Our guest started praying had their bibles out and begging to be let out

    Wonder why lol

We said no we picked you up were going to get you wher you wanted to go .we did get to the exit to the big way compound church and let them out about a 40 mile trip

More to the story but I have always thought they must have wished they did not get in the cars with us that day and become closer to the church same time

Like I said way more stories than space to write about the adventures

I still pick up hikers but I'm selective. It is a two mile uphill walk out of town and two miles further ahead the road splits. 36 goes to Red Bluff and 44 goes to Redding and Mt. Shasta. I always take them to the junction. I usually give them a coupla bucks, a water or two and a can of soup. Both highways are long and desolate. But, I always have my pistol under my right thigh. I have never had a bad passenger.

Back in my high school days I worked at a small restaurant that was 15 miles away. Before I had a car, I would put my thumb out to get there after school. Never had too much trouble and met some very nice people that I can still remember pretty well after all this time.

One of those memories was a VW bus full of hippies headed north for some concert going on in Charlevoix, which was along my pathway to work. Sitting in the back of the bus, one of the guys up front asked me if I had ever smoked SHEBA before?? 😲 No, I replied also saying that I'd never even heard of it.

When they dropped me off at the blinking light at the crossroad into the small town of Elk Rapids where work was, I found myself completely forgetting what the heck I was doing there!! 😂😁

One more story of the hundreds

We Picked up a fellow one day

This was 46 yrs ago by the way

We ask got any smoking material Not the exact words but close

He said yes but it's butt kicking good and mixed with ? And will mess you up

We said fire it up We can take what ever you have

By the time we got home about 30 miles

He was right we were feeling no pain and flying low

One of my buddies got paranoid was trying to hide his stereo .remember when we had quick disconnect for such things We were in his car aold 68 /69cougar

He was funny hidinghis radio it in the truk then under the seat then back in the trunk in the glove compartment and did this while making sure his headlights were working getting in and out of his car many times looking

so he would notget pulled over

now This was about 5 o'clock on a summer day in front of my mom and dad's house Lol

my parents shook there head in disbelefe

I have to admit if I picked up hitch hikers but I usually limited it to women figuring they would not be a problem or I could handle any situation that came up.

However there was one incident when the hitch hikers may have thought I was a serial killer.

I had an old Rambler with seats that would recline down to flat. Well the ratchet mechanism was starting to wear out and sometime when you jumped in the car too hard the seat would just collapse down.

Well one time I stopped to pick up a young lady and sure enough she jumped in the car and the seat collapsed. Her eyes got so big and she could not jump out of the car fast enough.

I tried telling her that the seat was broken but there was no way she was getting back in the car.

One wacko I picked up on the way home from work ,one day he got seemed like a nice enough guy about my age

I was going right by where he lived in the next town and told him was inno hurry a couple minutes did not matter to go by his house

As were getting close he told me how sometimes he wouLd have to make sure he was dropped off where he wanted to go .

Then put his fingers to my head like he was holding a gun this was about the time were close to his house .

I have no idea what he was trying to do scare me maybe or just acting bad to impress me

I just laughed what a wacko

at that time I was about 21 yrs old always had a gun and was in great physical shape and if I had took him serious it would not have ended well for him not bragging just a fact

No Not a biden popcorn story I just did not scare over big talk

One evening we were on the next town south of us and being guys we were commenting and cat calling all the girls walking

Two girls we called put to 1st said the normal reply I cannot post on here but the last word was off

A few rounds later we were crusing the same two gals yelled at us ate you guys from sidney well yes we are

Can we go riding and go with you

    Sure can

So they got in the car with us ended up spending the night with two of my buddies .next day when they took them home ther husband's had been looking for them all night. Woops

My buddies got out quick left the girs with ther husband's I sure that did not end well

I am sorry but we picked so many hitchhikers and so many stories the post just opened up so many memories of days gone by

Like some of you I could do a short story on all the people I incountered

Most all were good people just wanting to get home and thankfully for the ride but pretty dull for story on them

Thanks for allowing me rime to bend you ears
