I'd have to say next to the Bald Eagle this is my new favorite bird... And yes he's real. ππ

I like the Red Tailed Hawk myself...even though you have to thump one every once in a while...
Hawks fear me lol
I scare them to death with my Red Ryder... Just send a couple of BB's sailing past one...

They tend to like chicken's and kittens and puppies around here.. so a shotgun and a hole in the ground is usually where they end up.. and the other big bird too... but that's just the way it is.. people love their critters..and they will protect them...
You have that right....

You have to do what you have to do...may not be pretty.. but needed...
Shoebills are sure cool birds, but I find it very hard to pick a favorite among the tens of thousands of species there are out there! From all the mixes of vibrant colors to the uniqueness of them all, I just have to conclude that I really like and enjoy BIRDS! βΊοΈ
I watch the crows around here harass the hawks. They will take turns dive bombing them until the leave the area.
If I hear a murder of crows raising cane, there's a hawk being ganged up on.
In Florida it's illegal to kill or molest ANY bird of prey or their nest, it's even illegal to possess feathers (or any other part) of a bird of prey or their nest. All are protected by State law as well as the federal Migratory Bird Act.
In addition, its illegal to kill or harm any native species of bird of any kind without the proper permits which I would assume would be special permits and hunting licenses.
Never heard of raptors killing cats, dogs, children, etc in Florida, guess there are just too many other good things to eat here.
Did ANYONE watch him dance?

Bullshot, are there still panthers in South Florida? When I drove across Alligator Alley back in the '80's, there was a sign that said WATCH FOR PANTHERS- ONLY 28 LEFT.
Someone had crossed out 28 and wrote 27. Kinda morbidly funny.
It's illegal about everywhere..but my neighbor lady lost a kitten to a Redtail a couple of years ago.. she slung a broom at it and made it drop the kitten..which was dying from the talons..her brother solved that problem quick... Mr.Hawk ended up taking a dirt nap...
There are still panthers in Florida, only about 120 - 230 adults left though, not all in S Florida, however the majority are in SW Florida, all females are found in south Fla. which is the breeding area. Florida panthers have been documented as far west as Arkansas and as far north as S Carolina.
Yes. I'm like that every morning when I get up.
I snapped this pic a long time ago. Little red-tail was just learning to flay that day. He didn't get thumped. :D

Sorry. That is an American Kestrel, or Sparrow Hawk.
I have to agree with you...

Not being a proper birder, I'll ask: do they have red tails, too? (not trying to hijack the original content)

Yes they do, as in the picture.
He's got quite the dance goin' on there!
I've done that dance on the way to the toilet.......
Hawks are very cool in their own way.
TMI, TMI!!!!!!
Yepp..it seems that bird watched the Blues Brothers...
We have many Baldies in our area. Interesting birds to say the least.
