Got Ripped At The Grocery Store Today

BrookwoodBrookwood Member, Moderator Posts: 13,746 ******

Darn!!! I was in a hurry and failed to check my receipt until I got home. Inflation has been bad enough but when the cashier makes such a big mistake, it gets my blood boiling!

Corned Beef briskets were on sale and I bought ONE. The receipt said I bought 3. 😫 It's a 20 mile round trip back to the store and I will not go back until I shop again next week. Should be fairly easy to prove due to the briskets were all the exact same price. Wish me luck!

I don't think it is a bad idea to call the store manager, seeing you live so far away.

How are you going to prove that you didn't walk out of the store with three briskets?

I didn't mean a refund over the phone.... Just a hey this happened and I'll be in next week 😌

One of our grocery stores is notorious for not updating sale items.

I did notice that my total seemed a bit high while checking out, but I had a full cart and had bought a few items that I normally don't purchase on a regular basis. Was in a bit of a hurry. Had my 2 K-9 best friends out in the car and had noticed one of them was passing a bit of gas before I went into the store. 😁

I had a similar thing happen at the same Meijer's store a couple years ago. Can't remember exactly what it was but it was a double charge for something and that time I did call the store. Guy I talked to on the phone said no problem, just bring your receipt to the service counter the next time you come in. When I did get back there several days later, I did get a bit of resistance (gal doubted my claim) but after me doing a bit of a riot act about my years of store loyalty.......she caved to my demands for a refund.

Hopefully, due to the 3 exact same priced pieces of meat that were printed one after the other on the receipt I should get compensated without having to suffer another increase in blood pressure. 😏 I'll let you all know how I make out soon.

similar deal Monday, I bought 2 packs of paper plates and as the gal was trying to ring em up, she dropped em on the scanner and it was pinging like a pin ball machine, I just looked at her and she goes oops, then supposedly erased the overage... got out to the truck and looked at the receipt it had 5 rung up then 3 deleted then 2 rung up... wasn't worth the 7-8 dollars to go back in while my frozen stuff melted...

One of my worst grocery store experiences was at a Walmart about a year ago. Bought a full cart of groceries and a case of beer. Got back to car and unloaded everything and before leaving the parking lot, I checked my receipt. I was charged for 3 cases of beer! Went right back inside the store and to the service counter. There, they made me wait around for nearly an hour while their security checked the video tape of my purchase! All of my frozen food stuff out in the car including ice cream had thawed and melted in the summer heat that day! Grrrrrr!

I know I need to really check my receipts right at all the check outs so I can quit complaining to you all. I vow to do just that. Have any of you noticed that most stores make it extra hard to see and read what the registers are recording as things are scanned? I sure hope I'm not becoming an advocate for self check outs! In reality, I'm probably the poster child for the anti self check out movement!

    Rant over.

My self personally I really like these new self check out registers they have now, I hate waiting in line to get checked out. However about a month ago after checking out I thought the total was a little high, I looked at the receipt and there where a couple of items on there I didn’t purchase. Called clerk over and she said that someone must have started to ring them up then walked off. Apparently after a while of inactivity on the register the register removes the items from the screen but not from the memory of the register. If you use a self check out, after scanning your first item make sure it only shows that item first on the screen. I just took it as a learning experience for the future. And yes got my money back at customer service.

I can empathize. The grocery store I usually shop at has gotten so bad that I have pricing problems at least half the time I go there. (I admit I'm too lazy to learn where everything is located at another nearby store.)

I'd be mad, and they would know it

Same here the Piggly Wiggly store here rarely updates the sale prices. I always have to take the sale flyer along with me when I shop there.

I guess I should update this. I took my receipt and got my money back for the two over-charged corned beefs. They were very nice to me at the Meijer courtesy counter.
