Let's say you have $500 dollars to spend on a new sidearm. What's it gonna be and why?
I don't have a stubby revolver yet so I'm going with the Smith & Wesson 642 Airweight with the 2" barrel.

my knuckle still hurts from shooting one of those.....
Me, I'd probably go with a Glock of some sort.
Probably an FN 509
Another Canik and have $150 left to buy ammo.
You made a good choice!
Glock 19
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I'll have to save a lot more and get what I want...
If allowed I would do like Ruger4me above. If not Bersa BP9MCC and have a lot left over for ammo. Very underrated.
You didn't include enough information. Is this for concealed carry? Home protection, the list goes on and on!!
I totally agree with your choice of a 642. I have two of them. They are my choice for concealed carry.
Reach in your pocket. Pull out your 642. Point/aim (depends on distance to target) pull trigger.
No short stroking, no forgetting to wipe off the safety, no jambs, nothing to think about. Pull it, shoot it. So simple!!
It's for whatever you want it to be provided you can get it new for 500 dollars. π
I also considered the Taurus 66, 6" barrel. But I like the snub nose S&W better for the price.

I would give the money to my wife with no strings attached.
She takes great care of me, besides I have all the firearms I need.

"I have all the firearms I need."
I don't know what that means. π

It means I don't need any more. π
Joe
I thought the answer to the question "How many guns do you need?" was always "Just a few more." π€

Another Rock Island 1911
How is the trigger on that gun?
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life

Rural King, a local feed/farm type store sent me an e-mail last week for the RIA gov't style 1911, 45acp for $399, delivered to your local store!!! almost ordered one buy with my eyes I could never see the sights, but seemed like a great deal........
Iβll need more money. The best like Colt 1911 arenβt cheap.
Yep
If I want to have fun, a Ruger Mark IV with a target barrel. Plink City!!
If I want a full sized 1911-A1, an Armscor will fill that bill in an easy recoiling 9 MM!
Concealed carry? A Ruger LCP in a 380. I would say a Smith 642 but I already have two of those.
A full sized open carry piece? Glock 17.
All 4 of these are quality handguns and can be had for under $500!
I have all the guns I need. Of that there is no question. I have way more guns than I need.
I do not have all the guns I want. Of that there is no question. I have way more guns that I want then I will ever possibly obtain!! Want and need are two entirely different animals!!
The one that is under 500 bucksπ€£. Don
Actually, the answer is "I need one of each"π
Not custom, but better than you would expect for the price. Which is not to say I carry one, but would not hesitate if that was the best the budget allowed.
Since one is none and two is one, I think you mean you need 2 of each.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain

That is good, we will go with that !
Glock 19.
In that price range I would have to shop for a used Model 10 or 15 Smith
Glock 21.
+4 Make mine a 23.
My friends all call me a "One Hit Wonder". Never did know why?? Never did have much of an ear for music!
I could just about buy all the parts to build one of these with 500 dollars. Maybe not!
π
That's a beauty!

Hey, its my 500 bucks!
Another vote for the Rock Island 1911.
I've already gone through that stage many years ago. π
Joe
take a hacksaw to the barrells and the stock, and you would have your pistol bruce........
I have one. It's amazing. Gave it a Langdon Tactical trigger upgrade and it's a special shooter, for sure. Can't go wrong with the 92FS.

I was looking at the Beretta M9 22 as a plinker because they have been around for so long, and their FS model is tried and true quality, figured it would be a great gun to last my lifetime.
Did some research on the M9 model, and everything I found raised a red flag, plastic parts that fall off and Beretta no longer sells a replacement. Wow.
So I bought a Walther P22 instead. Kinda disappointed about the Beretta.
1851 Colt reproduction, if I could handle it first. Used LeMatt if i could find one for 5 bills.
dutchwind
It would go towards my bucket list firearms . Either a 44 mag blackhawk or remington xp 100 or a lone eagle. Seriously would buy a henry lever action 22.
I do like the Henry lever actions. I have one in 357 and it's fantastic.
