Seeing one of your posts made me get my late FIL's Model 170 30-30 out of the back of my safe. He passed in 1978, and shot his last deer with it in 1977, the last time it was shot. I have taken good care of it all this time. The old Weaver 4X he had on it deteriorated over time, and clouded up. I put a nice 3-9X40 Vortex on it yesterday. Told the wife I was going to hunt with it this year. She is really glad I decided to do that! I have one deer stand that has a maximum shot of 160 yards, so that's where it will be used. It'll be a good way to remember a good man and hunting partner, IMO.

A very nice remembrance with a classic old rifle. Let us know how the sight-in goes.
Very nice way to honor your late FIL. I hope you get a nice one this fall and may he be smiling down upon you.
I still use my original a few times it has served me well for many years it was the only centerfire rifle that I had.
UPDATE--I was finally able to find some 30-30 ammo locally for a decent price. Now to zero the rifle and practice using it so I won't have to get used to it in my deer stand! LOL
30-30 is indeed hard to find unless you're willing to spend about 1.50 (or more) per shot. Good luck with the sight in!
