Funny story, have a chuckle on me.....

Checked the yard last night just before bed to see what Martha was up to..... Right by the back stairs was a huge skunk digging away. Martha was about 10 feet away with her back up, trying to look mean !!! The skunk turned it's rump towards Martha and I banged on the window. Luckily it moved off but kept hanging around the back door....

I made all sorts of noise trying to drive it off. The skunk ran about 30 feet and stopped so I headed outside with a light and kept making as much noise as possible, thinking it would run.....It moved on out towards one of my Bride's flower garden. So I kept moving toward it....

AND then the darned skunk came running right at me !!!! I was back pedaling trying to get out of the way. It passed me at less than 10 feet running for all it was worth. I am guessing my normal voice was a couple octaves higher as it got closer to me !

Might have to rethink my skunk strategy !!! .

Skunk essence sells for around 15 to 20 dollars an ounce. You get between 1 to 2 ounces per skunk. Look at the money you just let pass. Don

    Lol

I can just picture the skunk chasing you

We have skunks living in one or more of the out buildings for years they only live like 3 yrs but the family keeps going

Cats just share the food with them the dogs I make sure don't get that close

They don't really cause any problems they help eat the dry catfood and steal a egg now and then I put out the catfood for our cats but that also keeps them from coming to the house and dogs

I have interacted with them countless times guiding them out of the feed and chicken sheds i just talk calm and provide a save path they always just go on out

i have Even pulled a coupe tails they don't like that by the way but have never tried to spray me

They have never sprayed the cats about 5 yrs ago one dog got some fall out lol

They do fight amongst themselves especially spring when mating season comes along

They have been at my feet countless times and fun to watch them argue about food they will try and block each other and turn there tails up and go backwards as a threat to each other

Wife would not allow me to harm or trap them she likes to watch them

In the spring the femails will spray to let the mails know back off so that's when we notice the smell the most

As for me I think some of the Walmart shoppers smell worse than the skunks

We have wooden steps off of the sun porch that are open underneath. This is the side of the house with the pond and I often would sit on the top step in the evening and watch the bats chasing bugs over the pond. One full moon summer evening I sat down and suddenly caught something out of the corner of my eye as a big ol' skunk sauntered out from under the steps. It walked about 10 feet away and started nosing around in the grass and seemed to totally ignore me. Interesting creatures but I don't want to sit on one!😊 I slowly opened the door and stepped inside and flipped on the porch light. We have what my buddy the game warden calls melanistic mutant skunks around here. This one was totally black except for a half dozen or so white hairs at the end of the tail. About a week later I turned on the light to look before I went out, not too old to learn, and there was a second skunk. This one with very wide white bands down it's sides and an all white tail. Since then we have seen about every variation possible in skunk markings. I never seem to be near a camera when they visit though. Bob
