BRISTOL, Tenn. (WCYB) — In the early morning hours on April 1st, Jim and Stacey Noviello were startled awake by their dog Abby, discovering a fire in their home.
At 11 o'clock that Saturday evening, Jim and Stacey headed to bed.
Around 2:15 in the morning, Jim felt his dog Abby close to his face.
She started going back and forth on the bed and then panting in my face and everything and then she woke me up.
That's when he realized something was wrong.
We could smell smoke,” says Jim. “I woke my wife up and she jumped out of bed and then as we opened the door, the smoke was coming in from the hallway.
Jim and Stacey’s home since 2007, now destroyed. After Jim says a ballast blew in one of their lights.
It was right down below our bedroom and that's where all the heat and everything was coming up and it was just -- just overwhelming.
But if it wasn't for their dog Abby, Jim says he doesn't know when they would have woken up.
I thank the good Lord again and again and again,” he adds. “I thank the good Lord for getting us out. That we have animals like this as pets that know what to do when danger comes and just to be there when we need them.
Jim says Abby isn't like every other dog.
She's not the type of dog that licks you and carries on and lays in your lap and stuff like that. But I was sick for a while, and she stayed right with me the whole time.
He says no matter where he goes, Abby is with him. And he's thankful to have her companionship.
Pets save a lot of lives. I know, I hear about it on the news all the time and it's a proven fact-- I’ve got one right here that did it.
Jim, Stacey and their two dogs are currently staying at a hotel while they wait for a new home to rent.
Comments
I bet a cat has never saved their human in a house fire.
We are so lucky to have dogs in our lives.
@Lady Rae … one more reason to get the new pup!

I had to look it up and found that there are really quite a few instances of cats saving their people from fire, oftentimes dying in the process.
