The launch was crazy busy, but other than that it was a great day on the Detroit river. We launched from Ecorse, had our limit in about 90 minutes, then started culling a few of the smaller ones.
I was home cleaning fish by noon. Perfect weather and fresh walleye on the table this evening.

Wooo, good lookin. Bet they taste great too. WTG
Good looking mess of fish! Jigging or crankbaits? I haven't been in a few years but when they are biting it sure is a lot of fun. There isn't a much better eating fish especially when the water is still cold. A little Drakes breading, a little oil and a suitable beverage to drink while frying them up, used to be a right of spring around here. Bob
Beautiful! I have caught many walleye in the lakes of Ontario. Delicious fish to eat.
We were jigging with 1 ounce heads and soft baits with stingers. Didn't realize until Sunday evening that there was a tournament going on, which explains the mess at the launch.
I was up at Balinger around 5:15, and the line to the launch was about two miles long, so we ended up at Ecorse.
is the deroit river clean enough to eat fish from??? I think the DNR still have a warning about eating fish from the ohio river......
Just the right size for eating!
Me too Allen. Here is a pic of some fat guy who was told to go out and get one more fish for the fish fry;
That is from one of the lakes north of Chapleau Ontario. Bob
On a calm day you can see the bottom in 40 feet of water. There is always a warning for eating too much fish from Erie, but I don't really know why.
We do a big fish fry about 20 times a year and I haven't sprouted any new digits yet.
We don't have walleye down here in Dixie. However, up in Yankeeland, this fish is regarded as some kind of deity. This giant statue in Minnesota is 30 feet long.
One of the benefits of living in South Central Michigan, we are comfortably away from the hustle and bustle of the metro area, but just an hour drive to launch in either the river or my personal favorite, Bolles harbor in Monroe.
In the warm weather we hang around West Sister island and the Camp Perry area. Good times!
I am envious! Never caught a walleye, but I have eaten a few, ranks right up with blue gill as the best tasting fresh water fish.
Lots of anglers catching nice Walleye in Lake Nantahala now.
Walleyes are running on my River, but the water is too high to fish. 5 inches of fresh snow this morning. Wis.
MMMMMMmmmmm Walleye!!!'
One of the few things I miss about Illinois are a couple rivers I used to fish for Walleye !!!
We have walleye, yellow perch, bluegill, wipers, white bass, smallmouth, largemouth, and channel cats here in north Utah, plus stripers in Lake Powell. Powell is no bag limit on stripers, smallmouth, and walleye. They're all excellent eating.
Yes clays we do have some walleye up here in the NC mountains. But they don't exist in my former homeland of Georgia.
Man they look good. Congrats on a great fishing trip. I'm jealous!!!!!!!!!!!
Never had walleye . They don't swim around in the flatlands of NC Guess the water is too warm .
When I was in school in Madison, WI my uncle would get up early and fish for walleye in Lake Menona where his house was. I went with him, my aunt, & some of my 5 cousins would go out later and perch fishing in lake Mendota. We would catch dozens, fellet, and my aunt would cook. Best fish I've ever had. Those were the days.
Congrats great looking catch and a great day for sure
Thanks for sharing your fun day with us
Lot of good eating ahead .
I only went walleye fishing once maybe 30 yrs ago for a weekend with a coworker and his brother on Lake Erie they had a nice boat And went often .
1st day i got so seasick I just laid in the bottom of the boat they were giving me down the the road to quit chuming or i will have all the sheep head following the boat i was heaving over the side big time
2nd day I had sea sickness under controll but a big storm came up it was breaking waves over the top of the boat we were trying to get to a island to help get some protection from the wind scary stuff since I can't swim I lol
I remember catching just two small ones before the storm hit
IMHO, there is nothing better than fresh caught Walleye, and or Yellow Perch, served fried up with tarter sauce and a side of good cole slaw!!! YUM!!
Great catch Gregor62!!
Down in south Georgia the two main fish are largemouth bass, and catfish. Bass are pretty good, and catfish are great to eat!
But walleye is better.
Anyone who's spent some time on Erie has gotten caught in a storm or two. Had one sneak up on us a couple years ago that changed the waves from two feet to six feet in about fifteen minutes. I had a boat full of green faces that day.
The western basin can be very unpredictable, and I always plan my trips around the wind speed and direction.
