Give me a ‘T’AVAR’ procedure ,,,,, ***UPDATE*** ,,,,,
Gonna have a TAVR procedure next week. The ‘ol aortic valve has calcium on it to the point of regurgitation into the left ventricle. ,,,,, Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
They trained a monkey (😉) to push various wires and catheters from the femoral arteries up into the aortic valve, inflate an elongated balloon in the valve ‘leaflets’ and shove the new valve in place and the old valve leaflets help hold it in place.
In the ICU over night, in case they have to install a ‘pacemaker’ and go home the next day.
Here’s what the expanded valve looks like, sample from manufacturer, after insertion and expanded, about the diameter of a quarter, and an end view showing the leaflets.
New valve leaflets’ are pork tissue. Doc said I’ll run a little fever, wanna eat all the time, and make love in the mud. 🤣
******* UPDATE ******* Got - ER - Done ,,,,,,,
Took longer to do the prep work than to shove the new valve in place. Two insertion places, one at the top of each groin area. Another two insertions in the arms.
Ask the nurse why an insertion place in the left groin. She said the left one was for the Doctors tool box, storing additional wires, inflation device to expand the valve (29mm diameter ,,,, 1.14 ID valve.
Inserted a ‘filter’ in the carotid artery to catch any debris from shoving the new valve into the old one, lessening the probability for a stroke. Two + hrs. for procedure, + one hour for recovery. Off to a room with enough wires attached to make a rocket engineer proud. Can’t drive for two weeks and a coffee cup is the weight max for lifting.
The Doc will give me a video of the monitor he was watching while stumbling around in my heart. 🤣
After pinching three of the nurses this morning they decided I would be better off at home ,,,,,,, 😂.
Feeling better already but lounging around for a couple of weeks ain’t gonna work ,,,,,, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve.
Many thanks for the kind words and prayers.

I suspect I'll be in line for something like that soon. Keep us posted!
Wish you the best of luck, say'n a little prayer for you and your Doctor.
You get healed up and hitting on all cylinders, I can find a green broke mule to send you for a summer project to finish?
I’ll get some reading material headed your way for during your convalescence.
Good thoughts and prayers your way Bill.

Well all I can say is hope it all goes well!
Prayers and best wishes.
Is that valve you pictured one you forged or is it store bought?
Prayers for a safe and speedy recovery.
Everyday I am amazed at the technology Humanity comes up with. Good luck!
Actually Joe, the valve was invented by a fellow who worked in the hydraulic/pump field. It sat on the shelf for a number of years before the the medical boys realized it’s worth.
The one I forged fits elephants ,,,,,,, 🤣
Hoping it goes easy & you have a quick & complete recovery.
Prayers sent for a speedy recovery
Praying for you 🙏🙏

Offering encouragement to put your mind at ease. I had my mitral valve repaired in '99. I have a rubber O ring in my heart, similar to one you would buy at an auto parts store. It has never given me any trouble so I believe you will be fine after the operation.
Best wishes and hope all goes well
yep, had an aunt have that done when she was 86, not the least problem from the "surgery", hope yours goes just as well forge.....
Thank all of you gentlemen and ladies ,,,,,,, 😊
May your doctors be competent and steady handed and may your nurses all be pretty!
Hope it goes smooth for ya, Bill. We'll send up an extra prayer or two for ya.
Thank you, Sir ,,,,,,
I just gonna say that this was not the kind of "T&A" I was hoping for.
But I have best wishes for you, anyway. (That's lame, but true.)
Let us know how it goes this week @forgemonkey !
We're all 'rootin' for ya!
(Bad pun, I know. Sue me.)
I will be praying for you. Hope all goes well. Oakie

Well? How'd it go?
Not just inquiring minds. Us nosy folks are interested too!
I had oe inserted in January of 2021. No problem at all. Went home the same day .
just go easy for a week or so.
Good luck!
Wow ,,,,,,, they wouldn’t think of sending me home the same day. Biggest concern was the femoral artery, interior stitches, tearing loose and bleed out before they go in for repair.
Thanks for checking in with update. Sure glad they got you fixed up.
Hope the Doc did an inventory so he was sure he didn't leave any tools behind. Heck, I found a wrench behind the battery box in a vehicle six months after I changed out the battery!😁
Glad everything went well and that you are on the road to recovery. I bet you will be surprised just how good you feel in a couple of weeks. Bob
Good news
Don't be a stubborn old guy like most of us just follow the docs advice and don't push the recover process
It's amazing what the docs and science can do now that a few yrs ago was a no win outcome
its hard to imagine what another 50 yrs or so will bring to the table
May you have many more great years to come to spend with your family
Thanks for the update, glad to hear it went well, take it slow and steady so you heal completely.
Rumor has it that they kept you overnight because all the nurses were smitten with you!
Glad to hear things went well!
Glad to hear things went well.
Mule
Very glad you made it thru. Hope your nurses took good care of you.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
How you doing Forge? Heal each day. @forgemonkey
Forge... You amaze me! 😉😆
