I love how the White House said they were meeting with the Republicans for negotiations and then they refuse to negotiate. A spending bill was passed in the house, by a majority, and by not negotiating the dems are guilty of what they accuse the Republicans of being; undemocratic and fascist. The people voted those reps in that passed the spending bill/cuts and the other branches of government should at least show faith in democracy and negotiate.
We are a country of finite resources and it seems we squander them constantly. The dems/liberals are constantly warning us about things like energy, clean water, housing shortages and other things that a massive influx of illegal immigrants only exacerbates.
That being said, one way or another, good or bad, the debt limit will be increased. Crashing the economy and not paying things like S.S. and other programs would doom the dems and they know it. The dems will blame it on the Republicans but if we crash it will be under Biden's watch and folks won't forget that. Just like the dems blame Trump for the pandemic even though he had little or nothing to do with it. So look for a "miraculous" last second increase of the limit so the dems can take credit. Bob
The liberals are lying to you. SS doesn't need to be borrowed yet.
Social Security is going broke because they keep borrowing from it to pay for unneeded programs, such giving money to illegal migrants for food stamps, transportation, hotel rooms, medical coverage. Hello they are not citizens of the United States, they have payed nothing into it.
Now as far as them saying SS checks will not be sent out, this is a LIE. Social Security is an entitlement to U.S. citizens that have payed into it and are of retirement age, it is guaranteed by law. It is like Medicare, it is a guaranteed entitlement when you become 65 and are a U.S. citizen, key word, U.S. citizen.
I just shake my head in disbelief when I hear people that are retired talking and worrying that they will not receive their SS check, or they’re going to take Medicare away. Hello, they are lying to you in order to scare you into voting for them.
I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a Hamburger today.
They want a no strings increase in the limit, and promise to negotiate reductions later.
If their are no strings now what leverage will they have later to get reductions?
Scare tatics. Both democrats and republicans are lying,(drill instructors language that I can't use here). We have screwed things up by keep voting the same idiots back in office year after year.Nobody, absolutly, nobody should be re-elected.Send them all home for at least two elections.
How does one open a boarder?
With a scalpel? After a good amount of alcohol/anesthetic, hopefully.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Our SS does not depend on the debt limit being raised, separate account
SS is still receiving interest and principle from the treasury bonds purchased with the surplus over the years. It is now collecting less than it is paying out, and a default on bonds will reduce what SS has to pay. Logically and properly SS payments should be reduced to the cash it has on hand at the time checks are written. If it ha 90% of the required cash, all payments should be reduced 10%.

If there is one single thing a politician will never let happen but will scare the beejeebers out of old people with is stopping SSI payments. It is a political ploy of the (D) party saying the (R)'s want to shove granny over a cliff and cut your SSI checks. It is all bunk.
If the government shut down the SSI payments would still go out, they are on auto pilot along with welfare, SNAP, SSDI and about a trillion bucks worth of other Federal expenditures.
