Yesterday, my son-in-law headed off to fire school with the WA DNR. I think he's going to enjoy it a lot.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

It's nice that there are still people willing to work that hard.
I did the U.S. Forest Service training in 1977. Was an experience of a lifetime. Got on some smaller fires never did the traveling gig.
I fought fire for the US Forest Circus in the mid 90's for three summers. It was a blast. I would have continued on doing it, but my wife didn't like the danger factor... and the away from home factor.

Yeah, that's a tough job. Good for him for stepping up to the challenge.
That is a very tough job. Is he going to make this a career??? Maybe become a smoke jumper. Those guys are total bad *
I worked side by side with many smokejumpers and can attest they mostly do not live up to that reputation at all.

His goal is to be an urban fire fighter.

Been a volunteer fireman since 1983 . We are mixed ,part rural ,part suburban. We also work with the NC forestry service to fight woods fires . The training is intense and learning to deploy the fire shelter will make you think long and hard! Hats off to your son-in- law. The brotherhood of firefighters is amazing.
They're almost as bad as the Hot Shots that way...
Been a Volunteer fire fighter and emt, since 1978. Station 313 and 318. We are know as the gutter rats!! Lenola Volunteer Fire company. I just gave my great nephew my old helmet from when I retired.
