A very strange feeling indeed.
I no longer have a job. I got my final paycheck today. I have no other job lined up and do not plan on getting one. I hope my SS and meager retirement funds will carry me through the next few decades, God willing.
It is a scary new chapter, I have tons I want to do but am not sure where to start. I suppose it will come to me in the next week or so.
Paint barns, clean chicken coop, change water pump on boat motor, clean the garage and organize tools and supplies, GO FISHING, cast some bullets, test 22 ammo in by benchrest rifle, build 50 yard target range with lighting and a roof so I can shoot at night. Finish fascia and trim on range building, landscape around the barn and range building, assemble the new Jet 14" band saw, sort all the steel out by size and use, sort all the hardwood for building things, determine what things to build, travel more to benchrest shoots, see my sons more often.
I am sure the list will expand exponentially.

Congratulations & welcome to our club. Your expenses will go down & you will do just fine. Soon you'll wonder when you had the time to go to work.
Lol, yes the list will expand... just do what you feel like doing whenever you want. Best part of being retired is there is always something that needs to be done. Enjoy it!
Congratulations!
I was told a man can get along well on a lot less than he originally thought.
I've found that to be true.
Start with a couple small to do's and go from there. imo, once I did get something accomplished it felt good and then on to next.
It's time to be choosy about when all of those jobs get done. When I was working it was a mad scramble to maintain our place and stuff in what few hours that I had free. Nowadays, I look at the list and do what I feel like doing each day and by the end of the week I've accomplished quite a bit. No rush, no hurry and plenty of time each day to do my hobbies or just veg. Life is good! Bob
When my dad retired, he didn't know what to do with himself after a lifetime of working. So he kept working, immediately doing all the projects around the house. About 10 years after he retired, he told me he wished he'd paced himself better at the beginning of retirement and had taken time to enjoy the moment.
What ever you choose, leisure or projects...congratulations!

Congrats on a well-earned exit from the rat race. Every morning when you wake up YOU get to choose what to do. Perhaps a project or two? ...maybe just read the funnies and have another cup of coffee. Only sage advice I have is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Pace yourself indeed. It's surprising how fast the "roundtoits" dwindle.
#1, Get the water pump on the boat fixed. Most of 'em are super easy to do and won't take long.
#2, GO FISHING! Everything else you talked about (other than some of the shootin') just gets in the way of your fishing time!
Congratulations on retiring! It is a strange feeling at first, but it certainly grows an you!
+1 on the pace yourself. I was forced to retire do to a stroke when I recovered I realized how important the fun things were.
Just remember one thing: Start off slow then taper off ........................................
Yea, easy for you to say. I bought the water pump kit this winter knowing it was going to need done. Now, if only I could remember where that 3X3X3 cardboard box was placed......
the weird feeling is waking up those first few weeks and jumping out of bed thinking you are late for work, then it hits you I don't have to go any more.................enjoy Bruce, plan a lot of fun between those chores, the to do list has been running the last few years, no need to do them all tomorrow, tomorrows are for fishing, and golf
Just pick a project and finish it that day. Then take the next day off. then do the same thing over until all your projects are done. That way you can feel like you accomplished something, and you will feel refreshed and ready for the next project.
Or not, there are no rules for retirement, Just do whatever you want. I found that I've worked harder after retiring than I did before.
Oh, and congratulations.
Been there, done that! LOL! I put mine in the glove box on the boat. Couldn't find it anywhere when I went to install it.
Now I have a spare!
Congrats. Now every day is Saturday. Bruce, go enjoy some time with your sons first and foremost. They will love it. Then get up in the clouds and go see some things in your plane. All the other stuff will still be there when you get back. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so family first. God bless and enjoy a well deserved retirement.
Congrats. Yep, have had that feeling for a year now.
Turn off the dang alarm clock!!!
Let your body get all the sleep it deserves........even though it may take a few weeks to normalize.
You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel overall. 😃
Just my $0.02.......
Look for jobs with no pay deductions, and no records.
You can't take it with you so get some R & R and slow down a little now. It want matter 10 years from now anyway.
On the first day of the first weekend of my retirement we are heading over to the Cincinnati area to shoot in a benchrest match. I will figure out Sunday when I get home.... 24 hours in and so far retirement is great.
Another thing, take a nap at every opportunity, That way you'll be ready for any issues that pop up. 😉
Joe
I’ll start with saying congratulations. Don’t think of retirement as scary, think maybe more along the lines of, just think of the possibility’s now.
Well the first full day of retirement was a long one. I am shooting with a friend that has cancer. I hang his targets, set wind flags and act as gopher to carry heavy stuff. His energy would not hold out for a six card match if he had to do it all himself. I woke up just after 5:00AM Saturday morning. We went to Kentucky for the match, leaving his home at just after 11:00AM. We got home about 3:00AM. I got to bed at 3:30AM. This retirement thing can be exhausting but so far so good! 😁
The only way to go! When retired, CASH is king! BTDT. I turn down work all the time.
I am drooling over the Beemer! However, reality slaps me right in the kisser and unless the sell price does not contain comma's it is beyond my means to obtain.
