I just got a shocking call.

My youngest brother (the retired Dr)., had a massive heart attack. They put a stent in his 100% blocked artery and will go in later to repair his other blockages.
I always thought he would be the healthiest of us boys as he was a Chiropractor and knew how to take care of himself.
So myself and him both have heart issues and my idiot brother has cancer.
Oh well, you have to die from something.

Wow, sorry to hear about your brother. Hope he can get all fixed up.
How one dies, or when, is not nearly as important as what happens next.
That stated, I pray for healing and long life for you and your brothers.
I'm glad he is ok. Sad sometimes doctor's don't take care of themselves and they know better. Hopefully this is a wake up call and he turns this around...

+1 I have seen plenty of overweight doctors, and wondered how they could sit there and tell you, you need to loose weight and exercise, when they can't do it themselves.........
Kevin has always been the skinny one in the family, so I doubt that had anything to do with his heart. He's on his third wife, so maybe there is a connection there, His wife is having a lot of weight-related issues, and if anyone would have heart issues I would expect her to be first on the list.
He's without his phone right now, so I'll find out more later.
Joe
I am in no way an expert, but I have had heart issues.I think we inherit many heart problems. Both of my granddads died from heat trouble and I am sure that I would also be gone without the medical advancements made during my lifetime.
I hope for the best for him they have came a long way in helping people with heart conditions
When I had my by bypass I though I was in good shape i was47 yrs old but a heartcath and pressing the doc to do it proved us both wrong Mine was 99% blocked and they could not beleve i was passing all the stress test
They told me at time that was 16 yrs ago heredity plays a bigger role that anyone thought And they had patients from 18 to 80 in the same ward rhe time I was in
And age has no meaning any more when it comes to heart issues
Sorry to hear that. I hope he recovers well.
Most docs will tell you…. it’s all about the genetics. 80/20 rule. 80% of what happens with your health is based on your genes. The other 20% is what you can work with (diet, exercise, etc.)
Had a neighbor growing up that was one of the skinniest, fittest fellows I have met, and only ate the healthiest foods. Ran multiple ultra-marathons (150+ miles) every year. Yet, he still ended up needing quadruple bypass surgery at age 50.
Our prayers for your brother. Oakie
Your brother should have had a better Dr. My father had his first heart attack at 54 his fifth one killed him at 67. I listen to my Dr. have a stent from last fall but heart is good at 68. Good luck to your brother.
Prayers for your brother.
No one is exempt from these issues. My wife taught with a guy that was as thin as a rail. He was the school track coach for 30 years.
He was hiking some mountain in the Rocky’s and felt bad so he returned home and went to doctor.
Doctor told him he had a heart attack and if not for his good health otherwise he would not have survived.
Kevin turned 70 in August, so he's no spring chicken. Dad never had any heart issues, Alzheimer's killed him. My paternal Grandfather died from a heart attack in his sleep, and I don't know what my maternal Grandfather died from. They were both hard working men. One was a Blacksmith/Gunsmith, and the other one was a carpenter/stonemason.
I'm going to try calling him again, hopefully he has his phone with him.
Joe
I still can't get through to him. His wife told me some disturbing news, and hopefully that was just the drugs reacting.
Joe
Prayers from here, Bubba. Sure hope things turn out alright.
Prayers sent
As of last night, his head is in a better place. I still can't get in touch with him after repeated attempts. I guess I'll just have to be content with secondhand updates.
Joe
Prayers and best wishes sent
Take care of yourself and be nice to both your brothers
I got a call from Kevin's wife this morning. He is getting a little better, but I think this episode really threw him for a loop. He is feeling sorry for himself and doesn't want to talk to anyone. He knows I called him several times, But he's not ready to talk yet.
She said she would let me know of any changes.
Joe
I guess give him time and space. Keep checking through his wife, and be there when he is ready. Prayers all around
I got a text from his wife this morning saying that they sent him home and will be under the care of a home health nurse until further notice. No mention if he is going to have the bypass surgery yet.
Joe
Not sure if that's good news or not. Like to have more info if it were me.
He is very weak, and is using a walker for the time being. After he gets his strength back they will send him back to the hospital for further treatment.
That's the latest I have.
Joe
Oh ok, I see now why they went and sent him home. Yeah that would make sense then. Prayers continue all around.
* happens........live today as though it was one minute 'til midnight.
We texted each other last night. He is in a lot better frame of mind now and ready for the next issue with his upcoming surgery. He told me the Dr's gave him a 50/50 chance of survival after the stent was inserted. He found out that the stent perforated the wall of the artery and he was bleeding out. He thinks that was why he got so weak.
I told him I would answer any questions about the upcoming bypass surgery.
I feel a lot better about his state of mind now. We were always very close as kids and have been since then, and this episode really got to me.
Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes.
Joe
Can you get there to be with him, Bubba, or is that not in the cards? I'm bettin' it would sure help his spirits.
As someone eluded to "Have fun every day" my friend, you never know. Hope all works out.
