1812 Newspaper - Any value?

cbxjeffcbxjeff Member Posts: 17,597 ✭✭✭✭

I have a issue of the New Hampshire Patriot paper dated 09-08-1812. It's in fair shape (actually darn good for it's age). I've had it for 35 years and am interested in selling or donating it. Any ideas on who I could contact to get an approximate value? Thanks guys,

This is just a swing in the dark

As I have nothing to base it on

I would guess not as in little to no value maye as a wall hager display

with advent of computers and every thing imaginable just a click away same as the once cherished encyclopedia sets that were a true blessing to thoes who could affod them now no one will even take for free

I will guess same with old newspapers unless.its some historic event and article

Possibly the date has meaning to a few people as day in the family history

I hope I'm wrong and it's a true collector item I would not feel bad about being completely wrong

Many yeas ago we lived in a house the carpet upstairs the orginal owners had used newspapers as padding all were from ww ll time frame

I kept them for many years but after several moves I have no idea what happen to them but they were interesting to read a lot about the war and the adds with prices really top it off

Any way to admit to not to know anything about old news papers I rattled on too much lol good luck and I hope to be proven wrong

I did see the 1st issue 1957 playboy on a donated auction site ran by a thrift store a few weeks back it sold for just under 4k My guess Some one must have hauled grandpa's old playboys off to goodwill when he passed on

Paper back then was not the quality of paper that we have today, so to preserve it I would want to keep it in some type of folder to protect it. The United States declared war on Britain on June 18th 1812, so it was printed after the declaration of war.

I’m curious, is it just a single page paper, and what is the main article about? Some papers back then use to list the war deaths. Either way you are in possession of a paper that’s over 200 years old, and that in it self makes it valuable.

I'm sure there's a local historical society that would want it. For free, of course.

+1 but I think it is priceless, so find an organization that has a 501c3 to give you a large receipt for tax purposes. That way you might save a few bucks on your taxes. Bob

    That's what I should've said, Bob.

If you go the charity route, keep the value below $250. Otherwise you will need an appraisal, documentation, etc.

Thanks guys. I thought it might be worth more being 200+ years old. I'll just give it to my son.
