Second Chance body armor and interesting inexpensive make it yourself stuff
Didn't want to hijack Frogdog's post about the state trooper that was shot, but @Toolman286 posted a vid of Richard Davies shooting himself to prove his body armor worked.
He has some cahoonas to do that, I will say.
And he was a pioneer in the industry. One of the first, if not THE first to make kevlar body armor. Kind of cool, but apparently it didn't go so well. In 2018 Richard C. Davis, the founder and former president and CEO of Michigan-based Second Chance Body Armor, Inc., agreed to resolve claims under the False Claims Act in connection with his role in the sale of defective Zylon bullet-proof vests purchased by the United States for federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies. Apparently he knowingly sold defective armor. Yikes!
Anyway, that also reminded me of this video I had been watching last night of some dude testing simple make at home plates for a plate carrier. And they performed very well.
And of course the original "how to make" vid below (which I watched a long time ago).

And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

In prison, guys would sew a national; geographic magazine into their blue jean jacket, one page at a time. It would stop a shank.
Sounds a bit like the 'DIY at home appendectomy kit'.
I'm not sure I want to know how you know this, Joe. 😮🤣
