What is it about Taurus handguns that some folks don't like?
The way some talk about them makes them sound like absolute junk, I have a couple of them and I like them, they feel good in the hand, they shoot straight and they go bang every single time you pull the trigger.

The ones who bad mouth them don't have them. Don
I have had no problems with their revolvers. In their first several years the internet was full of complaints about their semi-autos and their customer service. Never had a semi auto of theirs.
I have a G3C. Always goes bang, small, easy to conceal, fits well. Excellent little gun.

Agreed No issue with the revolvers...they are not Smiths or Colts but they work...
Their Semi-autos in the past were problematic. I got burnt on one that went back to the factory twice and still was
not working properly.... Have not even looked at one in the last 30 years.
They're an entry level gun with entry level quality.

I haven't seen a quality issue. Coming up on 500 rounds thru the G3C and not a single failure to feed, extract or eject.

Yep, they get rid of them because most dont work.
Your being nice.

The fit and finish is entry level. The quality is entry level. The function is usually fine, but entry level quality leads to "my gun is fine" "my gun sucks" about the same mfg.

I have a model 85 in 38 special and I have never had any problems with it. It has been a nice carry gun for when I am out bowhunting or riding the ATV/UTV. I did buy a used model 85 for my son from the LGS and it had a broken firing pin. We shipped it back to Taurus and it was returned in about three weeks or maybe less with no questions asked and a new firing pin and explanation of the work done. True they are definitely not a Colt or Smith but I think they get bashed a lot more than they deserve.
Ok, I'll give you that. It's not a shiny, well manicured handgun. It's far more function than form. And some of their revolvers are just plain ugly.

I have mentioned before that I spent a dozen years at the gun counter and during that time sold quite a few Taurus handguns. We probably had to send at least 20% back for warranty work. The only model I don't recall ever sending in was their PT99. They must have done a better job copying the Beretta than they did some of the other brands. That being said, I retired in 2010 and have heard that their quality has improved a bit. That may be so but I will stick with my Colts, Smiths and Rugers. Bob
THAT'S ALL I CAN TAKE! We've had over a dozen comments already and not a single reference to booze!!!! 😂

BOOZE .... BOOZE .... BOOZE .... BOOZE .... BOOZE
There ya go. 😀
I think Ruger is entry level, but their quality is not. I even have 2 semi-autos, though I own more revolvers.
Mr.P is right that "entry level" (= budget?) quality usually results in lovers and haters and not much in between.
I'll drink to that, I'm having a tequila sunset.
Well if you drink your Taurus is a better gun, than what I don't know, but then again I've been drinking... hope that helps Kevin.
I had a couple beers before my Taurus comments which may have swayed my enthusiasm toward the "settle down Francis" side of things. 😁
Nevertheless, I think Taurus makes some good guns these days and they're worth a shot.
<-- see what I did there?

Both of mine are revolvers both .357, one an earlier, (blued) six shot and the other is newer, stainless and a seven shot.
The blued one is a deep blue like a Colt (I know, not a Colt) and the fit and finish is very nice, the stainless one also has a nice fit and finish, I guess that I was lucky enough the buy the only two nice revolvers that Taurus ever made.
If buying a revolver that doesn't cost $1500. to $2500. means that it's "entry level" .... so be it.
If it can put six holes in your chest at 50 feet, it doesn't much matter who's name is stamped on the barrel.
Your mileage may vary
Yeah, very subtle.
The only experience I have with Taurus handguns was a Tracker in .41 mag. Functioned fine and didn't look bad, but not having much for components in .41 available locally, I didn't hold on to it for long.
I got a 1911 a year or so after they came out . So far no problems. Only issue is the large billboard looking graphics on the slide. Sold tons of them when working at the gun store . Had one customer come in and complain in 3 years.
My MIL saw and had to have a PT-22 tip up semi auto. Pretty lil thing with the pink pearl grips and gold accents.
Shot it one round- the barrel tipped up, the slide blew off, and her hand hurt pretty bad. It was sold.
That kinda happened to me with a Walther built Colt .22. First shot one of the white spots in the rear sight came out. 2nd shot the other one disappeared. I don't remember exactly what happened to that pistol.
File under the category: Things ain't what they used to was.
I'm currently carrying a Taurus G2C. I could own/carry anything I desire BUT the G2C is my choice. Never had a failure, always works, easy to carry= good enough for government work.
The 'repeat strike' feature(seems to be since I've never needed it) is definitely a plus even though it's not on the recommended list by the big name SD 'trainers'.
How well does is shoot?

Blending the two
Ken, I also have a Taurus .357. 4". Thousands of rounds thru it and never a problem. Sold off most of my art work, you know the pretty, shiny, excellent fit & finish ones, that you cannot turn the cylinder or heaven forbid you fire it. Mostly just shooters now.
Here are mine;
Last time I sold Taurus I had two revolvers come In broke
The Taurus semi autos I have had in the past had problems, failure to feed ,failure to fire,Jamming, but they have a lifetime warranty.Back to the factory for repairs several times and still had problems.I was reading how the quality had improved so I bought a G3C (I think).Took it out back to run a few rounds through it and after a few rounds it made a strange sound and my thumb was bleeding. When I went in I had a sliver of brass just above and just below my shooting glasses and in my thumb.A case had blown out.I had shot hundreds of the same factory ammo through P-Series Rugers with no problem.I sent the gun and blown out case back to Taurus and the pistol was returned to me with no explanation.I do have a Taurus snubby,I think a model 85 that I have not shot much but it has been fine.30+ years ago a local sports shop send sales flyer through the mail when there were gun sales.I saved some from the late 80s and early 90s for my sons that were young at the time so they could see what was available at that time.I was looking at some of the a week ago at how much prices had increased.Everything had increased except Taurus pistols. If you invested for the future with a taurus collection=You lose.
It was a definite quality control problem when I sold them. Off the top of my head I remember; broken pawls, broken cylinder stops, misaligned chambers that REALLY spit lead, broken mainsprings, sights that flew off, auto mag release broken, and so on. With the problems both I had personally and the ones my customers had, anything labeled Taurus, Rossi or Braztech ( all the same company ) will not find a home in my safe. With their failure rate I don't want to bet my life on them.
I'm glad some of the posters have had good luck and hope that luck continues. To each their own. Bob
...the only Taurus Ive ever had, I bought 20+ years ago, a Raging Bull 8"(?) 454 Casull... its always gone BANG when the trigger is pulled, freakin' loud...maybe shot 1,500 rounds thru it, still tight and all is good...friend of mine has a Taurus 9mm semi (the only gun he owns)...sometimes it hangs a case, sometimes it doesn't...not a gun I'd keep on my night stand...Ive always been and still am a Colt 1911 junkie...
My raging Hornet and Raging bee, by Taurus. I recently sold them for two reasons. One is, they were way to heavy to carry for small game, but very accurate. Two, I sold them to buy a Marlin for my collection, that I really wanted more than anything. Ended up with enough money left over, that I bought another rifle. Been kicking myself ever since. I really enjoyed shooting bench rest with these two fine handguns. I might buy another set later in life. Oakie
During my 'lean years', I bought a Taurus 357 mag with a 4" barrel. After a few dozen Remington factory 357 SHP ammo, the ejector rod started to drag and was found to be bent. Sent it back and it returned working OK. Another few dozen rounds of Factory loads (Rem and Fed) same thing happened. I decided this wasn't for me and I sold the Taurus. Replaced it with a used Ruger Sec 6 and haven't looked back. No more Taurus centerfire revolvers.
