I'm running out of places to shop.....mark Publix in Trussville off my list of place I'll go
I had to pick up some things at Sams today.....but they didn't have Horseradish to make "Alabama White Sauce" that my husband is hankerin' for. So, I run in Publix just to grab that. My son called just before I went in the store to ask me a car insurance question and asked if I'd pick up some of those frozen microwave mixed veggie bags for him while I was there. No problem.
I grab one of those plastic baskets and head to the horseradish....then the freezer section. The veggie bag things are on sale and stocked up.....so I grab more than the basket will carry and my arm is full.
They have ONE checkout working....all the rest of are self checkout with lines at both areas. Crazy.
I made it to the front of the self checkout place.....there isn't enough room to put my items down in the pre-checkout spot, so its a complete crap show trying to scan things. There is ONE paper bag at my spot....so I start to walk over to one of the closed registers and start to get the bags I need.
The girl that is monitoring the self checkout area walks over and starts to get the bags herself and says "we are limiting the number of bags people can have". I just look at her like she is NUTS.
I tell her she better be ready to walk that mess out to my car because I can't carry it all....she turns her back on me and I tell her as she walks away "I'll just leave this mess right here if you want." She got to her spot and turned back around and I just looked at her.
This used to be a good store. Friendly with special needs workers and older people everywhere. Its gone the total opposite. If you want to be surrounded by 20 somethings with a bad attitude who visibly hate you I can tell you Publix is the place to be.
If that gal had said another word to me I would have walked out without what I went in there for.
I'll never go back.

It's everywhere, yes it is.
WTH?
Sign of the times for sure, not only Publix.
That's ridiculous but more common now than helpful or thoughtful people at the store.
Might I suggest you start taking the baskets when bags are unavailable or when you get charged for them? I heard of a guy who's been doing that and it's been working out for him.

More and more common. What a shame.
Unfortunately its like that everywhere. I refuse to go to self check out. We have several different supermarkets some are friendlier than others and I go to the ones with the nicest people I care more about the service than the price.
The two closest WalMarts to me now have one checkout with a cashier out of 20 stations. The rest are self checkout. I ask the manager one day to please raise his prices so he could afford more checkout help. I'm probably the first to ask to raise prices. Nearby Kroger is a little better. They usually have 2-3 cashiers.
agree its the same all over frustrating
maybe one checkout lane with a actual worker the rest self serve and they wonder why people "forget to scan" a few items when checking out
I hate doing it but I have left carts with goods in them and left the stores (nothing perishable even I would not do that )
the loss has to be up by people bagging three skip one or two must not be enough loss to make them add manpower to run the register's.
I have talked with the Walmart door patrol and supposedly undercover security people just watching the people tell me they have caught people scanning a 10.00 item and have a 500.00 Tv in the cart and headed out the door sure they catch a few but who knows how many make it out
Never seen a self check-out in any Publix I've ever been to in Florida, maybe it's an Alabama thing.
Also have never been treated like that in a Publix either, I would think that a call to the manager would be appropriate though. They are really sticklers (at least here) for good customer service.
I go to the ATM and pull out $200, then go to the wal-mart buy a bunch of low cost veggies and head to the self-checkouts. I scan one item and feed it a $20, and get lots of change. I do this until all the $20's are gone, The wal-mart helper always gives me the fish eye, but I need the change for garage sales. I won't stand in line at the bank because it takes longer and i get healthy veggies to eat😊
Ya know what I find frustrating?
It's when someone talks about 'Alabama White Sauce' and doesn't tell us any more about it!!! No description, no recipe, no nothin', just that it has horseradish in it.
Sheesh!
Here you go: Best Regards - AQH

This is my brother's instructions....
Alabama White Sauce
2 cups Mayonnaise
½ cup Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tbls Lemon Juice
1 tbls Worcestershire Sauce
2 tbls Black Pepper (ground)
1 tspn Salt
1 tspn Cayenne Pepper
2 tspn Horseradish
Its very good and it is perfect for the carb diet thing because it has less than 1 carb per serving....pretty much a "zero carb" thing you can eat. You can adjust it to fit you....put too much cayenne in it and it will turn pink. You can buy it premade if you check where they have the bbq sauce in a lot of places. Dukes mayo makes a pretty good version of it.
You rock, girl!
2 of the 3 Publix in my area (East Central Florida) have self checkout and the people are very nice.
The only things I buy at Publix are BOGO. With BOGO the price comes out to 5-10% less than Walmart prices meaning regular Publix prices are almost double Walmart..
When the first Aldi opened in our area there was a knowledgeable young woman explaining vegetables to some people.
One of them asked her how she knew so much about vegetables and she said she worked in the produce department at Publix. When asked why she was buying her vegetables at Aldi she smiled and said she could not afford the prices at Publix.
I remember getting a 12 pound bag of Uncle Ben's at BJs. It was $9.99 but $7.99 with a coupon. Stopped at Publix for a couple BOGOs and saw the same 12 pound bag of UB's rice on sale for $14.99.

I will have Kroger deliver it to my house before I put up with crappy service again. I wouldn't mind a totally empty, fully automated store if I could just go in...scan my stuff....pay and leave. I'd rather be left alone than deal with a person's crappy attitude again.
We often use delivery services here and the delivery service drivers have all been courteous and helpful. Saves me and my wife a lot of time and hassle. Worth every penny.

Your lucky, we are not allowed bags in our grocery stores. You have to bring your own. I can't tell you how many times we went to Bj's, and forgot to bring bags. Now we just leave about twenty reusable bags in the back of the car and pickup. This no bag stuff in NJ stinks. Most all stores have self checkout and very rarely do they have a cashier. If they do have a cashier, there are twenty people in that line with bouffant hair, or their pants are up to their chest with a belt pulled extra tight. They also have eight hundred coupons that are either from 1971, or they are asking if they still except S&H green stamps!!! 😉😡
Yeah, and they need $15 an hour to act like a moron.
Gotta be some proud parents.....
Publix made more national news, and it's apparently not without controversy! No emotional support animals allowed. I hadn't heard about miniature horses as emotional support/service animals. I'll have to suggest my daughter certify Bucky, the miniature horse that protects her cows from coyotes.😉
