My John Deere has been somewhat of a disappointment. Facing some more issues with starting etc. I am considering getting it fixed and selling it. So what do you have and how is it working for you...
We have about 2.5 acres to mow, with an occasional run up and down a fence row to cut hunting paths..

Gravely zero turn. Best money I ever spent.
Exmark Zero turn I've had it since 2010 with no major repairs. I have over 2 acres and some parts are pretty rough.
Toro 50" time cutter, with the 23hp Kawasaki motor. Really, really nice ZTR mower. It has adjustable suspension, and a 3 year warranty, which is 2 years longer than most of the others out there.

If you are running ethanol laced fuel just buy a new carb from Amazon and find it running like new again.
Years ago I had a Cub Cadet lawn I garden tractor w/ a 38" deck. I had no problems but went w/ a zero turn Cub Cadet about 6 years ago. 22 HP Kohler and have had no problems except I was slow to learn the zero turn feature. I live on 5+ acres but only mow about 2.
Ive got a new John Deere and two husqvarnas. For the money the Huskys cut great. you pay for the paint and the name with the Deere, and for twices as much money I dont think you get twice as much tractor.
This is what we bought a couple months back. Absolutely love it and recommend it. Trust me, I did a ton of research and this was the mower that I like best. One drawback, it doesn't come with headlights, but they can be added. They have a welded frame, instead of stamped steel. I also went and did an undercoat on the mower, just to be extra sure it won't rust out any time soon. It also came with the arm rest and some other features. I actually spent all winter doing my research and comparing mowers. Lots of reading on the comparisons to JD and Cub Cadet. Bill, this is definitely the mower to look at. A genuine 1965 John Deere 110 with countless hours and acre's under it, a real mans machine, there's no bells and whistles on this baby.......no plastic either 😊. It's now semi-retired like me.

I have a Kawasaki powered Hustler that I have had zero problems with for 8 years(I did have to level the deck once) and an old John Deere AWS 277 that I have had to do very little to.John Deere mowers from box stores are not John Deere from dealers.A john Deere with a Kawasaki or Vanguard engine that is maintained and kept out of the weather ,last longer,gives better service and is built better than box store mowers.The other side of the coin is the price is much higher from the dealer.I was at a John Deere dealer one day this week and there was a mower,not a zero turn that had a $8500 price tag on it.You can buy a lot of Murrays for that kind of money.
Tip: look for grease zerks on any model you may be interested in, if you don't see any walk away from it, they're the life blood of a good mower. 👍️

I bought my zero turn John Deere 25 years ago from the local dealer, not a Walmart style store. I service the hell out of it and it runs like new. Mow over an acre.

I don't own a mower, but the comment about ethanol gas is valid. Do whatever it takes to run no-ethanol gas in ANY small motor.
Had a little talk with God as I walked to the shop for some extra wisdom or to pick up on something I missed,,
I decided to take one last shot at the X320 this morning. Started at the air intake and cleaned the filter (for the 3rd time) Moved on to the gas tank vent and cleaned it again... Next I put another new fuel filter on (2nd one this week) Next I spayed carburetor cleaner in it, cleaned out the port and put the air cleaner back on.. Ran the lines to the fuel pump and tested for gas flow....then from the pump to the carburetor... Gas was flowing ......checked the seat switch, mower switch and figured I had hit all the high points..
Got on the beast, said a little prayer and she shot right off......Mowed the yard in 100 degree temps and am now crashed out in the basement....
Not sure what issue or issues I got right this time as I did everything 2 or 3 times already...Maybe the first fuel filter was defective somehow. Any way, I am still going to replace the mower in the future.. I think I will wait until the sales etc this fall.

I would suggest a compact tractor with a front end loader and a 60" finishing mower. Much more versatile than any mower.
That is actually a consideration at this point.....
You didn't say what kind of gas, William. Ethanol blend kills small motors.
I usually use Non Ethanol gas in my mower, old tractors, chainsaws etx
Other than batteries no starting issues. One has 1200 hrs. on it and the other around 750 hrs. Other than maintenance have did very little to them. One thing I did do is take a lot of the safety crap off. If you back up the blades stop, I took that off. I crossed over the safety under the seat and did away with that. I bought both used with problems which I fixed. One had the spark plug hole stripped and I ended up replacing the cylinder on that side and the other had a bad miss and a couple of coils fixed that. Both have twin cylinder Kawasaki engines, heavy K70 transmission, and 54" decks.
All that gives me some hope this one will hold out a little longer....only 510 hrs on ours....

Yours has the Tuff Torq K58 transmission which should last pretty good especially if your yard it level. A lot of those have the K46 transmissions especially the box stores JDs, 300-400 hours and they are ready to junk. As long as the transmission is good those engines are easy to work on. Yours should last a long time yet. The X300 and the X304 have the POS K46 transmission as you see a lot of those at auction with the transmission out.
