Wow, lotsa lard and not much pig there........
To paraphrase Clara, "Where's the pork?".
Smithfield, owned by the Chinese. I don't go there.
That's terrible. Make sure you always look at the back of the package.

We buy Wright brand bacon and it NEVER looks like that mess. If I were you I'd take that lump of fat back to the store I bought it from and tell them that you wanted bacon not fat. Let the retailer deal with it.
Yep Chinese junk food. I don't buy it and like Lady said it helps to look at back which I am sure you know.
I'm not sure if you are bringing home the bacon.
We get ours from the Amish market, along with scrapple and pork roll. Now That stuff you got there is......., well I wouldn't call it bacon.
If he is, he should change careers.

Yup........
My wife gets a bit aggravated with me......when I "sort" through about a dozen packages, in order to find one that's worth a damn.π
If you find a store that Carrieβs βFallsβ brand bacon, try it.
I griddled a lb the other day, with pics. Same brand, thick cut. I thought it was/ is good. Actually planned on more when seen.
Expect lower quality. Smithfield is quitting the farrow to meat case business. They're buying butcher hogs from various 3rd party growers so have much less control over quality.
I have found it difficult to find any bacon that does not look like that no matter the brand even the local butcher shops that process their own is not a lot better
the store bought packages you can see thru are terrible after sorting thru as many as I can to pick out a package it still looks like fat mostly when i get it home. and open the package up
My late dad told me that you get what you pay for. Sadly that isn't true anymore.
Another possible reason for the mostly fat vs meat bacon: Smithfield recently 'liquidated' the sows from several of their north MO farrowing facilities. You may have purchased bacon from some of the younger/leaner sows. Literally SOW BELLY.
thats job security............
Pork industry is in a state of Flux . Impending regulations coming from ,you guessed it ,California, are forcing producers to alter their growing methods if they want to sell product to California. Couple that with several large integrators going out of business compounds the issue. Lessor quality meat is the result .
That is a case of an improperly trained worker or the production line was running too fast. And yes, I know this with 100% certainty.
Best Bacon I have ever eaten comes from a place called Burger's Smokehouse. It is a family owned place in our neck of the woods.
Smithfield needs the illegals to process the pigs for the Chinese. They can thank their Manchurian Candidate Sleepy Time joe and the Southern border governors for the bus rides North. They don't need to spend money to get them up.
As for the California silliness when newsom gets in, in '24 it's the whole entire US. Should've stopped him before it was too late. The dem version of the Reagans. A failed actress with a puppet.
We don't buy bacon often... But when I'm looking the only thing that looks worth buying is the thick cut or at Grocery Outlet they have thick cut ends that are good.

I agree, and can sympathize with having to correct the actions of those who refuse to put things back.........the way they originally found them.
This still leaves us with no answer for the root cause..........the need to have to sort through packages in the first place. π€
I quit buying bacon quite a while ago. High prices and low quality were my reasons.
Have smoked a lot of pork tenderloins in my smoker ever since and cutting it into thin strips and frying up with eggs for breakfast has been GREAT!! Crispy lean and tender it is and I don't miss bacon!
That's a good idea.
I'm gonna try that. Thanks for the tip
