Got Nailed.

Well, for my 60th birthday, I decided to step on a nail on a job site. Went to meet a builder and as he and I were walking through the house, we both stepped on nails, driven through plywood, that was covering a door. The nail went all the way through my shoe, and out the top. Dang. I cleaned it with peroxide and thought it would be fine. NOT!!! Woke up this morning to a swollen foot and couldn't put any pressure on it. Went to the hospital and had them check it out. Yup, infection starting. Pain went up into my leg. Doctor said if the pain continues up my leg, I will have to have surgery, to channel out the wound and clean it out. WTH. My foot is so swollen, I can't even wear a shoe. Went into the office this afternoon to answer some calls, and sat there in my bare feet. Now it really hurts. Hopefully this thing starts to heal over the weekend with antibiotics and some rest. Looks like college football and some movies, along with GB forums all weekend.

As Bill Clinton said "I feel your pain." I remember stepping on a two foot long 2x4 when I was was working construction. I let out a sharp cry. There was a 16d nail sticking through the board, and it went completely through my foot and out the top of the tennis shoe. I lifted up my foot and the 2x4 was hanging off of my foot.

Damn, that hurt. I went up to the ER and got a tetanus shot and antibiotics, healed up pretty well. Good luck with your misadventure Oakie.

Oakie, I doubt we need to tell you how serious this can be. As in "up to and including death."

You're too valuable here to lose.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Hurry and eat your snacks before the games, before lock-jaw sets in 😁. Your wife will love waiting on you hand & foot the whole weekend.....well maybe "foot" is a bad choice of words in this case 😊. Do as the Doctor say's and you'll be fine.

    ^^^^^^What he said^^^^^^

I spent 5 days in the hospital a number of years ago due to a 'little' infection in my left knee. Took 2 surgeries to clean it all out and a whole lot of pain. The doc said had I waited another day I would have lost my leg.

    DON"T SCREW AROUND WITH IT!

Sorry to hear it Oakie! You should know peroxide is useless. It makes a lot of bubbles, and impedes healing, and that is all it does. Ever seen it used in a doctors office or hospital? Next time, straight to urgent care and antibiotics.

    Enjoy the movies!

Just remembered, when I was a young country boy running around barefoot and stepping on nails and such Kerosene was the drug of choice for farm families who had no time or use for Doctors 😲.....it worked too !..........😊

If it wasn't for peroxide I would have died decades ago from some nasty infection.

Peroxide is nothing more than soda water, but with oxygen instead of carbon dioxide. (That's not technically correct chemically, but true in effect.) It cleans wounds well, which is the major benefit.

Hope your foot heals up alright. For years after I got out of the army I wore jungle boots. They were light, sturdy enough in the ankles and had a mesh in the soles. You did right in going to the hospital, nails are dirty. Had one friend that stepped on a nail, put it off and ended up loosing a couple toes.

This is another reason to stay current on your tetanus shots. There good for 10 years now.

Got one I my foot about 22 years ago . Emergency room doctor did an xray. Found trash from my tennis shoe sole embedded in it . He had to open it up to flush out the trash . Not fun . Same thing happened to me brother only his got infected and he spent a two weeks in the hospital . Always go get checked by the doctors

Yeah, the foot is infected, But I am listening to the doctors and taking the meds and stayed home to let it heal. I went into the office yesterday to get some messages, and will work from home today. I can't believe how much this hurts. Doesn't hurt where the nail went through, but rather where it is all swollen up. I guess that is the infection.

Wow. Stay on top of the infection because otherwise you will lose that foot and possibly some lower leg. Nothing to mess around with.

    Hope you heal up quickly.
