Nova Scotia

OakieOakie Member Posts: 40,510 ✭✭✭✭

Have any of you ever been to Nova Scotia??? What is there to see and do??? We are planning a trip there next spring or summer. I'm also planning a trip to Montreal and Toronto to see hockey games with my son in the fall. Been to those places before and wanted to see something different, That is why we picked Nova Scotia. Any info would be appreciated. It seems that there is really no info on much to do on the internet. Just showed tours of a lighthouse and some hiking trails, which we are not into. Oak

These days eating has become one of my favorite pastimes. Fresh seafood right off the boats would keep me totally out of trouble if I were going to Nova Scotia!

...my brother and his wife went, they have literally traveled the world...they said Nova Scotia was one of the worst places they have ever been...old dilapidated wood & metal buildings, everything metal is rusted,... they love seafood and said the food was not good, not really much to do... but that's just someone's opinion and you know what they say about opinions...

But we both know nothing has ever kept you out of trouble for long!

This is pretty much what I thought too. Wifey wants to go , so we will go. I told her if it was that bad, we can leave and go to Maine again. We were there once for a couple of days, but really enjoyed it there and want to go back.

We have had two trip where we left because it stunk. One was Nashville and the other was Myrtle Beach. We both hated those places and left after one or two days.

This morning, we talked about renting an RV, and heading out to Montana and Wyoming for a near distance vacation. I have never been out west, but the wife has and loves it there. We both are die hard fishermen. I would love to go catch some steelheads, as would she. Donna is the one that actually got me into fishing. Oak

Take the Blue Nose ferry from Bar Harbor Maine across to Yarmouth, NS. Be sure to watch the high tides roll in on the Bay of Fundy.

I worked with a guy and his wife was from Nova Scotia.Every Christmas they would drive from here in SC to Nova Scotia and almost every year he would run into a snow storm about Virginia and it would stay over them the whole trip there.

Halifax, NS has little to see besides one historic house. Streets are hilly, walks are tiring.

If any members of your group have a disability, remember that Canada has nothing like our Americans with Disabilities Act. Some restaurants may be accessible only by stairs.

If you head to Montana we'll have a room for ya, Oakie. At the very least a place to park your rented RV!

Thank you very much. Montana is number one on my bucket list. My friend goes there every year for hunting, and brags about how it is the most beautiful state in the country. We will probably rent some horses and do some trail riding/camping out under the stars. You guys that live there, don't know how lucky you are!!!

I'd love to go. Eat fish and chips once a day for how ever long my stay would be. If budget allows lobster once a day, too.

I think they shot "Haven" there.

As for Montreal and Toronto with the "French" Canadians. I don't know. Joe Beef or Chef Martin Picard's joints since it'll be once in a lifetime visit (if it were me). Being spring or summer hit up all the farmers markets.

..."This morning, we talked about renting an RV, and heading out to Montana and Wyoming for a near distance vacation."...I can almost guarantee, that would be a more enjoyable vacation...draw a line from Texas straight up to the Canadian border and I've been to about every state west of that line...NEVER not enjoyed any of those states, and all road trips...learned to trout fish in Colorado, father in law owned a lodge on the Conejos River...fantastic fishing!...I always bass fished so trout fishing was an experience , LOTS of Brown, Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout...if you plan on wading those mountain rivers, buy some REALLY good, insulated waders, I did after my first river fishing trip😁... enjoy your trip and be safe wherever ya'll go...

OMG I laughed so hard I had cramps!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for that. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. 🤣🤣🤣.. Gives new meaning to Catch and filet.

When My brother in law and I were in Sanibel Florida, we went snook fishing. We both caught a few large snook, but released them, because we didn't know what they tasted like. We heard they were boney. A while later, a game warden stopped by to see how we were doing and check our license. We were telling him about the snook we released. He then sad to us, well that is good news for you guys, as they are out of season. 😯. The last guy we caught with a snook out of season, we cooked him and the fish in the electric chair!!!!!!! OMG he was so funny. Made our day. This guy was so cool, he actually showed us where to fish and what to fish for. Nicest game warden I ever met.

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

You have to get some beavertails while in Montreal. Also I think there's a Titanic cemetery in Nova?
