Took a trip to the range yesterday. I shot a box of .22 Magnum, 9mm and .40 S&W through five different firearms. Some draw and fire drills, offhand and one hand shooting drills too. Good time..
Who is headed out this weekend to fire off a few rounds ?

Cant go this weekend. We have a home game Saturday. tailgating starts at noon.
Tikka 22lr, Remington 22lr, and AR15 with iron sights ( I took the scope off).

6.5 PRC reload testing, along with 4 new S&W revo's that I've purchased recently.
Used the 12 gauge with #4 buck last night on a ferrel cat, that’s 2 cats this month I’ve had to get rid of, and yes they were ferrel not someone’s pets. Might brake out one of the 22s this weekend and try and take a couple squirrels.
Remington 550-1. I put a scope on it and it's ready for squirrel season.
My 550 is from 1955 and has no scope rails or mounts. How old is yours, Jim?

No idea. I bought it used. It has no serial number just the c b 9 . It has receiver grooves.
It's a tack driver.
It has what appears to be a home made stock.
Starting with this and then some 22 mag, and 22 hornet before the weekend is gone.
That is what we use to call a custom made squirrel rifle. I’m jealous. Older Remingtons always were tack drivers for squirrel hunting if it had been properly scoped.
Agreed. Mine's almost 70 years old and still the most accurate gun I have with iron sights. Of course, that might have something to do with the fact that it's the gun I learned to shoot on so many years ago.
I love seeing the old 550s still going strong.

I need to check my muzzleloader for the season next month, and while I'm there, I'll burn through some 308, 280, 30-30, and 22 ammo. I have a key to my neighbor's 150 yard range, so don't want to waste a trip.
Just got back from the range.
The Remington 550 with iron sights, vs the Tikka T1x with a scope set at 4x.
From a bench at 25 yards, it was a draw. Both were shooting dime sized groups. Both rifles make you feel like you know what you're doing.
Offhand at 25 yards, I shoot the Remington better than any rifle so the Tikka didn't stand a chance, really. Plus, I've never been any good shooting offhand with a scope. Remington 550 for the accuracy win, but it was still pretty close.
I didn't even fire the AR. I was having too much fun with the 22 comparison.

Hopefully a buck or possibly a bear, both seasons are open. If Wife shoots, it is a .275 Rigby Model 70 featherweight and my old standby is a 77 Ruger .308. Both are proven freezer fillers.
