I walked right into this one's web one night last week. I was happy to see she came back and has been set up on the back porch the last several days ...

I like spiders too. In fifth grade our teacher read to the class Charlotte's Web and I have liked spiders ever since. We have more big spiders this year than ever before.
As a kid my parents instilled into us the only good spider is a dead one
When I was about 18 i bought a tarantula called it waren had it fot about 4 yrs after that I had no real and some admiration for them 6
Always go out of my way to carry them out side if in the house and avoid tearing up their webs if possible
Also the fact their is no real posinos ones around us ihave been bitten many times by wolf spiders moving them out
Just saw the first big yellow black garden spider for the year a few days back it had its web across the rooster door opening
Thier is a youtuber dose " the spiders in your house I like to watch his videos along with countess others ? I enjoy
Monkey faced Argiope.
I don't mind them except when riding my ATV to my deer stand before dawn and catching one on my face! They love to make their webs across the trails.
I have face planted so many spider webs it's not in the least bit funny.
I HATE SPIDERS
Joe
We call them banana spiders? Medium size yellow & black. Build great webs.
Different spider, but not too distantly related.
Black racer?
I don't mind spiders because they eat bugs! Way to go spiders!!! I don't mind snakes because they eat mice and rats! Way to go snakes!!!
But sticking my face into a big cobweb?? Oh yuck!!!!!!!!!
If it has 6 legs or more, my feeling on the matter is step on it and move on, it’s a bug.
There's a Ray Stevens song somewhere in that thought. ("I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes")
I my first "Halloween" Spider yesterday.... Not my first ever my first this fall.
"Independence Now, Independence Forever."
John Adams
This topic reminds me of the old song i cant remember the name but went something like
"I got silly and found a frog ,and she said I don't like spiders and snakes and that's not what it takes to love me "
Or close any way
Jim Stafford " Spiders and Snakes"
I now exactly what grdad45 is talking about. Every time I go to fill a deer feeder I bring home about 1/2 dozen spiders with me.
...I don't go out of my way to kill spiders or any other bug...on the deer lease there was an old grey wood barn that had collapsed, easy fire wood...LOADED the bed of the Wyllis jeep with wood to take back to camp...out of the corner of my eye I caught something on the passenger seat move...looked closer and it was a Black Widow...got back to camp and started to unload the wood and it was covered with Black Widows...I think we found more than a dozen, then the next day found another two crawling on the jeep...wont kill you but can make you really sick...
When I was a paramedic in a hospital in Georgia we had a 19 year old kid, dad sent him in to the well house to check the pressure tank. Gee I wonder why dad didn't go in...
A healthy young buck, he crawled in to the well house and got bitten on the back by a black widow. We ran him right to the ER and soon he was right up in ICU. He was hurting really bad. After 3 days he was released from the hospital. Doc told us medics the spider bite wouldn't kill him, but, he would wish he was dead for those first 2 days in ICU.
I don't know what all ICU did for him I don't think there is an anti venom for black widow bites.
😮
Brookwood
truly a classic old horror show ( I do enjoy them all )
I can remember the poor old fellow trying to yell in a tiny voice " help me help me "
then splat came the rock down to help 😲
but what else could he have done 😕
How dare you call him that ............... 😁
The Banana spiders in Florida (and there are a boat load of them), are nearly as big as your hand and are yellow and black. I've had a few stretched across my face while in the woods . The only danger from these things is the injuries that you may sustain while beating yourself in the face trying to get him off of you.
I hate spiders as well, I don't kill them because of all the insects they eat but they are creepy little bastages, I just wish that God had put bells or something on them so we could hear the suckers coming. My wife on the other hand is a devout spider killer, spiders fear her name. If she sees one but it manages to get away, she worries about it until someone can produce a dead body and set her mind at ease. Sometimes I'll have to claim to have seen the culprit and killed him ............ then the world is right once again.
Bullshot, the Nephila (golden silk or banana spiders) get even larger in the neo-tropics. Maybe when you visit Costa Rica, don't take your wife. 😉
The females make large orbs and there are often several much smaller males with webs of their own living in her web. Some times the planes of the various males orbs run at crazy angles to each other and to the females web. You could get all wrapped up in one.
The ones here spin webs that are almost like fine monofilament line, very, very strong. These look very much like the Golden Orb except the body shape is different, longer, narrower and not as oval.
I can say my wife will give all spiders a pass she even will carry them outside or have me do it tells me don't kill it take it out
But then again nothing around here that could do harm un less allergic
The wolf spiders get a bit large and when covered with countless young spiders do look a bit creepy
I been bit a few times my fault for handling them too rough and they retaliated .
I find jumping spiders interesting and my favorite
I have read they are intelligent for what they are considering their brain limits and have the best eye sight
And a lot of people keep them (jumping spiders ) as pets
Golden silk spider, now know as Trichonephila clavipes.
Yup, that looks like a Florida Banana spider ......... they get pretty big too. 20-30 lbs easy. 😁
And as I mentioned, they get even bigger in the neotropics!
