I went in to have a melanoma cut out from the top of my left ear. Operation went fine and I went home with a big bandage on my ear. Then, about 9 pm, it started bleeding. Bled through the bandage. Wife removed it and it appeared to stop. Went to bed. Woke very shortly with an ear canal full of blood. Wouldn't stop.
Went to the emergency room. Took them two hours to get the bleeding stopped. Said it was a ruptured blood vessel because the actual operation site wasn't bleeding. Got home after 1 a.m. This morning, called the skin Doc. He says to come in and let's see what happened.
Total waste of O-Neg goodness. I blame it on the Packers loss, LOL!
I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Cowboy up and hit the bleeder with a hot iron right off the coals. It'll stop bleedin'.

Meh, you gotta be tough in today’s world🤣 ,,,,,,,,, they did this and then a 6 1/2 hour surgery to remove lymph nodes and a pound or two of shoulder muscle. 😡
I remember you said in an earlier post that you were putting some kind of special salve on your ear. Was that the same spot on your ear you were putting the salve?
That was a chemo cream, and yes, it did go right on the melanoma spot. Apparently worked, too. The MOHS guy didn't have to remove much. I'll learn later if they think it was that or the stitches that nicked the blood vessel. The bleeding came from a different but nearby spot.
All I lost was a few ounces of blood and half a night's sleep. No biggie compared to some other folks' experiences.

I’m glad to hear it worked. I had a little spot couple of years ago on the bridge of my nose where I had a scar from when I was a kid. Actually I suggested to the doctor why don’t we try and freeze it with liquid nitrogen , it seemed to work, in fact it even removed the scar when it all healed up. You’re right in that compared to what other people have had to go through, things could have always been worse.
Well, they cleaned up the dried blood and debated putting in more stitches, but after pinching the wound (which hurts like hell) for 20 minutes, even the residual bleeding stopped altogether. They wrapped my head in gauze and sent me home.
If you waited a few more weeks, you could have dressed as a mummy for the trick or treaters!!!
Glad your okay Rocky. I would have panicked like crazy. I take blood thinners, and even the smallest cut doesn't stop bleeding for a day. Hope you heal up and everything is taken care of. Oak
I bet they asked me "Are you on blood thinners?" at least 20 times. And then got perplexed when I said, "No."
My new bandage is exactly like the old cartoon "Toothache" one - wrapped under my chin and over my head covering both ears. Even has the bow like tiny rabbit ears. It's a hoot.

Me too. In the night, it got all whompeegoogus and the various batting, packing, and stuffing fell out. It came apart when I tried to adjust it this morning so I just said to heck with it and unwound it. Ear looks ugly, but the discomfort is down and even some of the swelling, I think. I washed it VERY gently with baby shampoo, then cleaned it with peroxide and finally gave it a thick coat of petrolatum, per my original instructions.
Headed out to pick up younger daughter and granddaughter, who are flying in from Arizona to "tend to my needs" and gaze at the ear destruction. Hey, whatever excuse to see the grandkid, eh?
The Mohs method is interesting. Deserves a read if you know nothing about it. Highly skilled technique.
I had a Mohs job on my right temple. The surgeon was born in Russia and grew up in Finland. I could only understand about 1 out of every 20 words. He did a good job though. They were amazed that I didn't flinch when they were poking around the area with a hypodermic to numb the area. The nurse was amazed that I wasn't screaming like most everyone else. I told her that I was not allergic to pain. 😉

When my Mohs guy came in he asked me if I needed anything. I said that I had repeatedly asked the prep folks for three fingers of Scotch. He replied that he thought that was a great idea and then mused that while he could legally and easily give me the most powerful narcotics, why not give me alcohol. He then said he ought to keep a bottle on hand just to surprise the next patient who asked for some. My kinda guy.
