There are two stores in the town I live in and right now neither one has a firearms for sale. This was not true a month go. What is the situation where you live? They have a lot of ammunition.

Last time I looked, all 3 wally worlds around here had guns and ammo. Prob 2 weeks ago. Some up north of us did stop selling guns a while back. Ours stopped for a little while, then had to start back because I assume they were losing too much $!
No guns in the nearest WalMart 40 miles away. Haven't been since 2020. They have a lot of ammo but I can beat the prices on some here on GunBroker, taxed and delivered.
Walmart stopped carrying guns and ammo in NJ like ten to fifteen years ago, as did Dick,s K-mart and just about every store. We have to go to Delaware or PA to find stuff. Not that long of a ride and no taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If one does a search on this forum for posts about Walmart going out of the gun business, you get tons of results going all the way back to 2006. You would think after 17 years they would have gone out of the gun business by now.

No guns in any Walmart around here, ammo, but NO firearms since years ago.
Guns & Ammo abundant everywhere in my state at WMart, but then again: VFD Very Few DEMOCRATs.
No guns in Walmart around here. They do sale ammo still but selection is usually slim.
I can’t imagine needing a gun bad enough that I would buy one at Walmart.
I see ammo but no firearms. I wonder if it may depend on the state where they’re located. For Illinois for example, they not only have to have an FFL license, they now have to some kind of special license from the state. I’m pretty sure all sales have to be recorded now as well.
Some do, some don't. No idea what their criteria are.
They sell the same ones other gun stores do. Sometimes for less money. 🤷♂️

I was going to buy a gun from Walmart, but nobody working there knew the process. All I got was a 'Can you come back later?"
Walmart was never in the gun business. They are in the profit and public image business.
Gun sales are nothing more than a drawing point to a specific customer base.
Once that becomes inconvenient or problematic they will move on to more productive products according to sales statistics.
California so no guns or ammo.
Absolutely spot on, and will add, they are far from the only corporation with that operating plan.
To the OP: I have no idea what our WM sells. I have not been in there since 2015 or 16.
They still sell em here in Missouri. I was grocery shopping the other day at the one in Ava, MO. It still had plenty of long guns - lever actions, bolt actions, shotguns, and 22LRs. The Turkish semi-auto 12 gauges were on clearance. I wouldn't buy a Turkish shotgun at any price.
They were full stocked up on rifle and shotgun ammo.
My understanding is that the storemanager calls the shots as to what kind of firearms etc are stocked. Some walmarts even supposedly carry reloading supplies.
The Walmart here in Franklin, NC has powder, dies, bullets, presses as well as firearms & ammunition. Manager must be a hunter.
ours have some RCDS dies and parts but no powder or primers..... bullets occasionally, had about a dozen shotgun and rifles yesterday....
Here in northern lower Michigan, ours has firearms and quite a bit of ammo. I even every so often find a few of those elusive #11 percussion caps for my percussion muzzle loaders. Last batch of caps were only 3.99 a hundred!!
Clays, you ain't so far away .I am in goldsboro.
It am what it am. A given store will carry what sells there. They don't sell surfboards in Utah and they don't carry snowblowers in Florida.
I know a guy that back when Wal Mart was first expanding with new stores, he would buy a Deer rifle few days before deer season then after season closed or he got his Quota he would return the deer rifle for a refund, then buy a chainsaw and cut himself some firewood then return the chainsaw for a refund.
He did this for about 3 continuous years and bragged about such.
Wal-Mart eventually re-vised their return policies for Guns and Chainsaws.
He did not like Wal-Mart stores as much after they changed their warranty/refund policies.
I told him that with his qualifications he should think about getting into politics on the Democratic ticket. He just smiled.
I visit a few different Wal-Marts and some carry guns and some don't. I don't know the rational, but if there is a civil disturbance all the guns are removed from the cases and put in the back room for awhile.
Can't imagine what kind of "man" that doesn't own a deer rifle or chainsaw.
how could the store take the rifle back???? thought it had to go back to manufacturer.......
It is parasites like the rifle/chainsaw man who really tee me off.
My son who lives in Omaha needed to rake his lawn so he ran to WalMart, bought a leaf rake, raked his lawn and then returned the like-new rake for a refund. Unfortunately for him, I heard about it. After a brief chat, he went back and bought a rake.
To add to the drift , my daughter was notorious for a few years doing something similar. She would buy shoes for a fancy occasion . Wear them once or twice and then return them . This happened multiplie times until I found out . Soon put a stop to it
The last pair of shoes I bought looked like they might have been worn slightly. They were just the ones I wanted and the last pair in my size. Asked the salesman for a discount, he looked them over and agreed with my assumption. Took off 40%!
We used to have a member here who did things like that.

It might pain some of you Walmart boycotters to know that Little Debbie is producing two new special holiday baked treats - to be sold only at Wallie's place.
as a retired grocery guy i avoid wallmart .i bought a car battery a couple months ago and that was the first time in 4 years i was in the store
Yep, go to Harbor Freight, buy jack and jackstands. Work on car. Return tools to Harbor Freight when finished. Only a low rent individual would pull such nonsense.
Harbor Freight got wise on that, now you need to pay extra for in store insurance which allows you to swap an item out within a certain amount of time. I did that on 2 vehicle winches I bought from them. Already swapped one of them out for a better / heavier weight one.
