Posted this in another discussion but want to add here to see what the experts or those who did not see the first post. Certainly is strange to have a Winchester barrel and Marlin receiver. Was my grandfathers and have no history beyond that of the rifle.

Like a Python barrel on a Smith frame. How is it balanced? Centered weight like I imagine with little recoil?
Gunsmith's little parts project.
like yosh said, winchester barrel shortened and rethreaded for the marlin action. use the parts at hand to get the rifle 'shooting' again.
Nice lightweight and balanced well. Not an expert by any means but seems to handle nicely. Recoil is really negligible with the .25-20 cartridge. Used to wear a Weaver 4x (same that I have on my grandfathers' Marlin Model 1893 .30-30) but my BiL who had this for the last 20 years took it and the sideplate off because he said the scope was broken - and the threw them away.
Would love to know the history.
Ah, that's what the pair of holes on the side are. Maybe you can find something to remount a scope?
