woke up this morning and my watch had died just after midnight last night. fought with it for almost 1/2 hour just to get the back off, bad eyes trying to find that little dent to pry the cover off. Then had to get magnifying gllass out to see the number on the battery. had to take the dog to vet so on the way stopped at CVA to get battery, they have an endcap of batteries but only about 2 out of the 30-40 batteries, rest just empty pegs!!! don't know if they steal that many or if they were just to lazy to order/stock them. went to walgreens same thing!!!! so on to the vet on the way back stopped at wally world and they were the same way !@#$%^*^&^^#$@ its a common watch battery now looks like the wife will have to order one from internet so no watch for couple days....... dang outfits you would think they could stock a few batteries if theft is such a bid deal, put the rack behind counter with cigarettes @#$%$)(*&^$#$!@#$%^&^%^*&%#%&^$^@

You actually use a watch?
If you were to just buy a Casio watch hillbille, you could just toss it when the battery died and get another!
Or if you like to recycle, just give the old watch to a very young grandchild to play with.
I've had a few high end battery powered watches that I would take to a local jeweler and they would replace the battery for just the cost of the battery. Those Swiss Army watches are a real bear to take apart!!
Sorry, my meandering doesn't solve the battery shortage issues for a do it yourselfer.

Brooks almost bought another watch, but I like the old fashion white dial with real numbers and second hand, wally world had cheap ones for $9.99, but none with the plain face, I go through them alot, as I am he** on the crystals, seems I break them on something every year or so, this one I have is almost 3 years old and still in one piece, minus the battery......
Judy only occasionally wears a watch and when she put it on this morning the battery had given up the ghost. When she gets around to it, she'll have our local jeweler replace it. I've been wearing a Citizen EcoDrive for about 15 years and it keeps the battery charged and the only thing I ever have to do is change the time twice a year because of that "super useful" daylight savings time. I have told her that we would get her a ladies version, but she said at 10 bucks every 2 years to change the battery, it would be a long time before that added up to the cost of a new watch. She always has her phone so doesn't really need a watch anyway. I refuse to carry a phone 90% of the time so I like having a watch. Bob
When the EMP hits your battery watch will get fried. Get a self winding watch and worry no more.
I just looked and in a drawer I have five wrist and two pocket watches. The only functional one is the wind-up Waltham I got for graduation from grade school. I sold a Bulova Accutron a while back to a collector. That one took a very hard to find battery.
I keep a couple of watch batteries on hand in case I want to wear one of them, but that hasn't happened in years.
BTW, I was looking for a battery just the other day (not for a watch) and all three stores I went to had plenty of watch batteries - just not the one I was looking for.
I still have a few but use to just stop by wally world they would change out battery's for me for the cost of the battery
But when i started using a cell phone I have not worn a watch for maybe ten years at least . At first it was odd I kept feeling like I was missing

One of the fellows always had and wore a nice watch it was like a hobby for him he was showing off his latest purchase and what it cost
One other fellow ask what time is it.
then said look my 12 dollar watch from Walmart its showing the same time everyone got a laugh.
The other guy just said you just do not get it . Its about style .
I have five watches , and the batteries never last more than a month anymore. Now I just look at my phone. By the way, most jewelry stores in a mall, will change them for 10 bucks. Donna bought me a rolex when we were in the Bahamas. I took it back the next day. It's like putting lipstick on a pig!!! I told her I would rather have a few nice rifles instead. 😉. My favorite watch, is a cheapo that I bought from Muzzy broadheads. That thing was always great at telling time.
Haven't wore a watch since I stopped working. Always wore Timex. Still have one around here somewhere battery is probably dead.

I feel your pain with all the battery displays. There are many stores with a huge card of numerous batteries, cheap. I order online to have any needed battery for whatever. I also have a whole setup to change watch batteries.
I've been changing our families batteries for a few decades now.
Over the years I've slowly acquired many small watch tools and gadgets.
BTW........looooong ago I gave up trying to find batteries locally. I just get them off of ChinaBay........to my door.......for less than half the local price. And........buy two at a time.
For the vast majority of us it seems odd (to me) to wear a watch if you carry a smartphone. One more thing to maintain…and it does nothing that a smart phone won’t do.
caveats:
1) professionals that need/want to maintain a certain appearance
2) heirloom timepiece
3) gift from wife or kids
I'm still wearing the Seiko Sportsman I bought in Vietnam in 1968. It is a self winder from your movement therefore no battery to worry about.
I took my Seiko watch to the local jewelry store and for $10 they replaced the battery and cleaned up the inside of the watch.

I also purchased a self winding Seiko in '68 while in VN, the one on the right. Purchased the black face DX on right thru PX and had it sent home to my dad. He wore it up until his death in 2001. Both still working perfect.
You EARNED that watch brother. I'm still jealous over you becoming a nurse. You are a hero in my eyes. I understand not wanting to spend that much, for something we will only wear on special occasions. Donna did buy me a nice watch for Christmas about three years ago. I wore it once. That is why the Rolex got taken back. It was beautiful though. It was a blue submariner, that I always dreamed about. Now I would rather have some nice wood and a blue receiver , with Marlin stamped on it😉
I mentioned this topic to a nurse friend today and she said "by all means, get the Breitling" but buy a couple of cheap Timex watches to wear while working. She said that it is amazing how easy it is to break, contaminate and scratch up a watch working with patients. Definitely go with at least a synthetic band, and metal is better, because leather just won't hold up to being sanitized often. Bob
Been wearing a Garmin rechargeable for about 10 years. It has really took a beating and keeps on going. Really user friendly and does not needed charged very often and only take about 15 min to charge.
When I was wearing a regular watch seems every time I really needed a watch to be reliable it quit working. Even bought a kit to remove/re-install the watch backs and kept spare watch bats in the fridge. I have an old manual wind wrist watch as a back-up.
I told Timex several years ago to stick their watches where the sun don't shine, then take them out and lick on them and see if they keep on ticking. (due to pee poor Customer service centers)
I would not wear a Timex if they were free.
