...what did I miss here?...a dog can be used to find/recover wounded deer, but a drone can't? ...Game Warden genius at work...99.99% of the Texas Game Wardens I've dealt with over the years were GREAT people, only a time or two crossed paths with a twit...IF I was going to do my career over, I'd be a Game Warden...
Whether one likes it or not its still the law. He broke the law, he pays.
We are supposed to be a republic. People can change state laws thru their political system if they feel unjust.
If it is the law then you can't do it. That being said I think you should do everything possible with in the law to recover an animal. This law definitely needs to be changed to aid in recovery, but only in the recovery of the animal. No animal should ever be wasted if there are ways to recover it.
Seems like legality is something you might check into before you set up a business and advertise services on the internet.
That article is confusing as all get out. Likely the reporter is clueless about everything being reported on. Did the guy actually use the drone for locating game to shoot or not? I doubt it. I'm sure the operator knows that would be illegal.
I don't like wasting game, but wouldn't the enhanced ability to retrieve a wounded animal prompt more hunters to take riskier shots?

I just don't see how using a drone is going to be much of a help finding a wounded deer in thick woods.
The game warden just has it out for this man. Must be a dumb o crap, because he is bending that law to fit the man he wants to convict. We may never know, but I guarantee you there is some personal vendetta going on here.
I have not read that states law, but logically reading the news story......its illegal to pursue game with a drone. Meaning you cannot stalk or pursue LIVE game to then go and shoot. With the right lawyer, charges will be dropped. But months(or years) wasted, plus thousands of dollars on lawyers, and the game warden still wins his personal grudge. Thats my humble opinion anyways!

I have watched videos of people looking for wounded/dead deer using drones. The deer had already been shot, they were just trying to find them. If the deer wasn't dead, I don't know what they did, because you can't carry a gun while on someone else's property looking for a wounded animal.
My vote Is still out on this one.
The law says: illegal to use any electronic contrivance or device ... I hate to lose a deer but the issue is pursuing and by definition your deer didn’t die and is still alive and so I don’t believe a drone is the answer.

the one I saw fly used thermal imaging to find anything putting off heat and then he could zoom in with the camera and see the animals
he showed me deer laying in thickets and could zoom in and I could clearly see her laying there and chewing her cud just like a cow does
he showed me raccoon in the top of dead snags
and wood ducks resting on logs
it was really awesome
he gets $350.00 for recovering deer that have been shot they put off heat a lot longer than I would have originally thought
If you allow hunters to use drones to recover injured deer, how could Game and Fish prevent hunters from scouting for fresh deer to kill with their drones?
I’m more curious on what this guy charged to find your deer. My self I will stick to following blood trails. I don’t see anything wrong in trying to locate a shot deer with a drone. Maybe more emphasis put on better shot placement might eliminate having to hire someone to find your deer.
State near here will bust your butt if you use a dog to track a deer blood trail.
Fellow had a blood hound that was the best deer finder ever. Rabbit Sheriff kept a close eye on him.
A guy here ,NC ,has abusiness tracking ,recovering downed deer . Very high end drone with thermal imaging camera .Accurate to about 6 feet . $300.00 . Too rich for my blood unless I knew without a question that it was a record for me .

I've noticed that some of the Bunny cops and Possum cops cannot use common sense judgement, Game Wardens are needed though. I've also noticed that some of these smart aleck AH type's are always in every crowd, especially Bunny and Possum cops.
Just a shame and disgusting when some of them Possum and Bunny cops cannot use common sense and interpret their own regulations book as per it's intent.

Drones are illegal to use for game spotting/recovery in SD. Very ignorant lawmakers.
^^^ It's easier to just paint all with the same brush rather than require (or allow) individual consideration.
BTW, in the local news just a couple weeks back: A drone was used to find an older man who became disoriented and lost while taking a walk around his home. Cops onsite for 3 hours failed but drone succeeded within 15 minutes.😁
