Question. I know they like peanut butter, but what do you put the peanut butter on so they might like it better?

Everything tastes better when it sits on a Ritz cracker.
depends are they male or female??????
I use peanut butter on stale bread for raccoons and possums. Haven't had to trap squirrels.
Had to edit, this site doesn't like the short name for raccoon WTH is everyone a sissy?
Feeding and trapping? Not real sure. I’ve always been more of a seasoning and frying person my self.
Maybe try mixing some corn in with the peanut butter.
I had one for a pet 35 years ago and he loved chocolate pudding. If he got loose in the house he could pop open a cabinet door quicker than I could open it and he went straight for the pudding cups. When he finished you could track him by his chocolate foot prints on the counter.
I can call them in and hand feed them, but I've never successfully caught a squirrel in any kind of trap.
Not sure but I think a gray and fox squirrels have slight differences in food selections.
They are not in my area but are moving closer every year. I have hunted both gray and fox in SWVA, near Saltville and they were not in the same food source.
You live trapping or catch and hold trapping?
Most states have seasons for trapping squirrels and such.
Like on a rat trap? You might have to chain the trap so it doesn't wander off.
This site is possum centric (see no censorship).
Peanut butter and bird seed is a killer combo for our local tree rats although they seem to love shelled walnuts and peanut butter even more.
Fox Squirrels are around here but scarce as an honest politician. they are really beautiful and pretty big also.
I have caught 4 or 5 grey squirrels in a HavaHart trap. They got deported. I was using peanut butter.
I have not even seen a fox squirrel around here.n
I have an overabundance of them.Wife insists on feeding them and that's ok as long as they don't start chewing the house . Then it will be war! I do have a fox squirrel or two who visit but choose to reside in the woods about 300 yards away. They are both black .
Feeding and trapping.
I've live trapped both Fox and Grey squirrels. I was using them alive to train young squirrel dogs. Take them out in the middle of a field with only small trees around so as the dogs could stay in sight of the squirrel as it tried to get away. Did the same with Racoon dogs.
I just baited the squirrels and or Racoons for awhile first using whole corn so as to get them feeding good and used the large size Havahart traps. I fixed the traps so as they would get familiar with going inside and after they got to feeding good I would then set the trigger.
For the squirrels first just placed a board for a shelf on a likely tree then eventually set the live trap by the tree or on the feed shelf.
Bait is going to attract most every critter around.
If you are using leg hold traps you need to abide by the trapping regulations or the Possum/Bunny cops might be visiting you soon.
My brother gave me a squirrel trap,I think he got it on Amazon, that will hold about 10 squirrels unhurt. I put a pile of corn in it and thinned the squirrel population down a little.Only problem I had was the first squirrel I caught was very pregnant,so I let her go.
Don't think I want to try hand feeding with peanut butter. Think I will try a ritz cracker and maybe a saltine. Peanuts are too expensive and a jar of peanut butter will last a year at my house.
My dad had a squirrel that would come up to the front door of the house, and he would hand feed it. One day he was feeding it and something startled the squirrel. Dad said that squirrel bit him three times faster than a snake. Dad needless to say never feed the squirrels by hand again.
The Presbyterian church called a meeting to decide what to do about their squirrel infestation. After much prayer and consideration, they concluded that the squirrels were predestined to be there, and they should not interfere with God’s divine will.
At the Baptist church, the squirrels had taken an interest in the baptistry. The deacons met and decided to put a water-slide on the baptistry and let the squirrels drown themselves. The squirrels liked the slide and, unfortunately, knew instinctively how to swim, so twice as many squirrels showed up the following week.
The Lutheran church decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God’s creatures. So, they humanely trapped their squirrels and set them free near the Baptist church. Two weeks later, the squirrels were back when the Baptists took down the water-slide.
The Episcopalians tried a much more unique path by setting out pans of whiskey around their church in an effort to kill the squirrels with alcohol poisoning. They sadly learned how much damage a band of drunk squirrels can do.
But the Catholic church came up with a more creative strategy! They baptized all the squirrels and made them members of the church. Now they only see them at Christmas and Easter.
Not much was heard from the Jewish synagogue. They took the first squirrel and circumcised him. They haven’t seen a squirrel since.
Don't pay much attention to those. Being in the city, I'm not inclined to snuff them. The fine is a bit steep. I have one little male that is my buddy and the rest can shift for themselves or adopt another sugar daddy.
We've got fox, grey and red squirrels at our place. All visit under the bird feeders and scarf up any spilled sunflower seeds. The only ones that do any damage are the little red squirrels and I live trap them using the sunflower seeds that they are used to. Once trapped, I usually see how long they can hold their breath when the trap is submerged in the pond. We do occasionally catch fox and greys in the trap but they get a pass and are released. A couple of years ago we had a grey in the trap that only had half a tail, probably from escaping some predator. I think I caught that same squirrel 4 or 5 times over the summer. He probably figured the free food was worth being locked up for an hour or so.😀 Bob
I am fond of all of God's creatures. I caught a copperhead once, he was under the lid of my propane tank, caught him with snake tongs, and I deported him to way out in the country 2 miles from any house. I don't want to kill anything.
I worked long and hard to build my log cabin. When a squirrel starts gnawing on my dovetail notches, we got a problem. The first one I caught red-handed, I grabbed the Savage smokeless muzzleloader. The squirrel ran up a tree 20 feet away. I got him in the middle of the back with a 250 grain XTP hollow point at 3,125 foot-pounds.
After that, I got the Havahart trap and have caught squirrels and deported them. Also I have set up some rat repellers on the porch, they work pretty well on tree rats. Also just sprayed up the white pine notches with hot cinnamon spray.
&%$$#$!! Squirrels!
Fried squirrel and squirrel dumplings is how I dispose of them.
First fox squirrel I ever shot my son went to fetch it, "Dad you shot out a groundhog".
We have red and gray squirrels, no too many of each, mast crops often fail and turkeys compete for food, birds of prey aplenty here take their share.
Red squirrels are on my top hit list. Been told they will raid a nest of young squirrels and neuter the males. I do know they will torment a full grown gray to no end.
