There had been large groups of blackbirds in the area all this week. Today I was looking out the window and this eagle was on the ground in our hayfield. It remained there for a few minutes and then took off. I took this series of pictures and you can see it had a blackbird in it's talon as it flew away !!! The eagles have been in the area a lot lately. If it ever dries out again, I hope to take the Gator over behind the lake across the road and check out the nest located near there..
They sure are interesting to watch.....

Nice !!
Red winged blackbird
Great pictures
That is a whopper of a black bird, just comparing with size of eagle.
Yeah. I’m thinking crow. Looks like a pretty heavy beak for a blackbird.
81 says black bird, so I will say he's right, he was there in person.
What about a Raven?

Nope, not a raven beak too slim
I assumed red winged blackbird as there has been thousands of them around and they were flying around the hayfield minutes before I snapped the pictures... Make your own decision....
Crow...
black birds
Great Eagle pics Frank!! As for the black birds in your photo's, I do not see any red\orange stripes on any wings. This is what we call Red Wing Blackbirds around here.
What I would guess at your birds being Grackles.
I guess I am not sure what kind of bird was involved. We have large flocks of Black colored birds flying around the area. I have found a few on the ground and they are black but have a red area under their wings that is only noticeable when they are starting to fly... I assumed it was a red wing black bird....... I see that I am incorrect.... So I am not sure what they are exactly.
Yeah, I saw 5 bald eagles in a tree couple days back. Right above a half eaten cow carcass. 🤔
